guys im pretty inexperienced with adsl as i've always had virgin myself. i was at a friends house today connecting talktalk back up for them. when the line is connected straight into the phone socket with one micro filter and no telephone she gets 8.0mbs (fine). the problem is when i connect the double socket downstairs with her phone (or without) its suddenly drops to 2.5mbps.
im guessing its the double socket but i was also querying the microfilters. she actually has 4 spares (only have one conected to the setup) but i was wondering do they need to be adsl 2 compatible or something?

any ideas? she has already spent a few bob replacing wires and cables and dont want to make the wrong decesion.

As said above, a filter must be used in any socket in the house which is being used. For example.

Router being plugged in to master socket - Filter this socket
Phone upstairs in an extension socket - Filter this socket
Sky+ Box downstairs connected to a phone line - Filter this socket

Plug microfilter into all sockets that have devices on them as mentioned here, then the devices into the micro filters. So it goes:

Socket > Microfilter > Devices

Best to have the ADSL line going into the master socket too.

Is it set up as;

Socket > Filter > Double Socket?

Can you take photos or explain more in detail on how her sockets are set up?

Try either;

Extension Wire > Filter > Modem
|
Socket > Double Socket
|
Filter > Phone

or

Extension Wire > Filter/NoFilter > Modem
|
Socket > Filter > Double Socket <
|
Filter/NoFilter > Phone

Bah, stupid forum, hope you know what I mean.
