Hi there,

I recently bought a new computer from a supplier that sells Dell computers.
They said the HDD's would be in RAID 0 Stripe but they haven't been configured :(
Currently I have two 250gb HDD's..one with XP Media Center installed, and one that I'm using as a file dump.
I understand that I'll have to re-install the operating system, I'm just not sure how I'd go out configuring the RAID stripe feature.
I also understand that you need a floppy disk when installing an operating system on Raid HDD's with the raid drivers on it. My new computer doesn't have a floppy reader..will i be able to use a memory stick?

Thanks in advance :)

depends, hopefully the raid controller will be on the motherboard. when you boot up, after the POST screen, do you get any text that says NVRAID or similar, and something like "press CTRL - X" or "press CTRL - A" to enter raid setup ?

if you dont, you'll have to go into the bios and make sure the raid controller is enabled.

thats really the first step.

see how you get on with that.

If you can get that far, we can go through setting up the stripe in the RAID bios

yes, you'll need to setup the array.

so go into the raid bios. select both disk, create them as a RAID0 stripe (if thats what you want)

save, stick os cd in, boot off it, create partition, quick format, job done

Cool thanks mate :)
Will I need drivers for the RAID controller when installing the OS? I know occasionally I've tried installing the OS on RAID HDDS at work and it's just blue screened when I tries to detect the HDDs.

hehe, i always keep a usb floppy in the drawer just in case.

if your using vista, chances are you'll be ok, but xp you'll deffo need the drivers
