£250-275

I am buying a 320gb hard drive for £20

AMD FX-8320 3.5GHz 8-Core Processor £113.99

TP-Link TL-WN781ND 802.11b/g/n PCI Wi-Fi Adapter £8.73

Arctic Cooling Arctic F9 43.0 CFM 92mm Fan £2.50

Cooler Master 500W 12V Elite Power 500 Power Supply Unit £29.55

Welcome,

Hmm.. this is tricky..

Let me start of by saying, i wouldn't suggest you put that motherboard and CPU together, though it is supported.

The problem with the FX 6***'s and 8***'s is when the hit 100% load they pull more power than they are rated for. Even below 100% they will pull a lot of power and the motherboard will throttle the CPU.

I have seen a few threads on here which have reported black screen while running 60%-100% load and one where his motherboard set on fire due to the chip running at 100% for a extended period.

To run a 8*** you need a good motherboard with active phase control (power). Though, then you run into the fact these don't come with on-board graphics.

Let me say another thing.. A PC is all about balance.. You can't run a £500 GPU with a £50 CPU, so why would you run a £120 CPU in a £240 PC, thats half the budget..

Also, the PSU chosen and fans aren't great choices.

Also, where is your case?

Is that the MAX budget?

Gigabyte GA-78LMT-USB3 Micro ATX AM3+ Motherboard will require a BIOS update to take any FX chips.

also, i agree with the above.

i would go with a A10 setup if thats your budget.

i dont know much about the A10 other than its cheap and cheerful, so ill let someone else spec it for you :)

thanks for your reply

im planning on upgrading my computer overtime and which motherboard would u suggest then?

the case to save on my budget i will be using an old one

and i really like the fx series of chips as i want the best bang for the buck and the ability to game later on

i searched online the gigabyte supports up to 125w so will a fx6300 at 95w cause any promblems

Good plan on keeping your case. :)

They are decent bang for buck..

I think the 6300 will be okay with that board but thats as high as you can go upgrade wise..

If you were to look at a different motherboard id suggest one of these two (preferably the EVO) Though they don't come with onboards.

YOUR BASKET
1 x Asus M5A97 EVO R2.0 AMD 970 (Socket AM3+) DDR3 Motherboard £79.99
1 x Asus M5A97 AMD 970 (Socket AM3+) DDR3 Motherboard £65.99
Total : £157.38 (includes shipping : £9.50).

so i have chosen to go with the Asus M5A97 LE R2.0 ATX AM3+ Motherboard Don't mention competitors please. and the fx 8320 .The graphics card as i will not be gaming i chose a cheap MSI GeForce GT 210 1GB Graphics Card Low Profile PCI-Express 2.0x16 589MHz HDMI

i increased my budget to £275 and am planning to buy some used pc parts such as ram and hard drive to keep my costs down.

what is the preformance diffrence beetween the fx8320 and the fx6300 .

Sorry didnt know that your not supposed to mention competitors

i researched and amd boards are weak on single threaded programs what does that actually mean

and will i notice in general windows use such as opening programs or using the internet etc

It sounds to me like an APU would suit you better since you're on a low budget and only want light gaming.

No modern processor will have any problem opening programs or browsing, etc.

If you get the 8320 you'll need a graphics card, even if it's a £20 one.

what cpu would you recommend if u wanted a really fast desktop pc but not for gaming but the possibility to do so in the future
i could get the fx8320 but will have to increase my budget wich im willing to do so but would rather not

thanks for the recommendations ive taken on board whats been said and im planning to spend more to get a better system

im still planning on getting the 6300 or the 8320 and i just want a conformation that they work with Asus M5A97 LE R2.0 ATX AM3+ Motherboard
(most likely to go with 6300)but want to know if i can upgrade to the 8320

ive also chosen to get a better psu so ive chosen Corsair Builder Series CX 430 Watt ATX/EPS 80 PLUS Bronze Power Supply Unit

ive chosen to get PNY XLR8 Edition 8GB (2x 4GB) DDR3 1600MHz PC312800 Dual Channel Memory Kit.Please can someone confirm this will work on my motherboard

and as i wont be gaming my video card is cheap MSI GeForce GT 210 1GB Graphics Card Low Profile PCI-Express 2.0x16 589MHz HDMI

The hard drive im probably gonna get is a Seagate SV35.3 500 GB,Internal,7200 RPM,8.89 cm (3.5") (ST3500320SV) Hard Drive

will this setup make my computer speedy and open applications really quickly
