Help needed from you experts

rang virgin, they reckon that the fastest my line allows is 500kb? Did sound like he was just reading from a generic responses book. He's sent an email that I need to work through and re contact if my speed is still slow!

They're talking crap. You are on fixed a fixed rate 512kbps connection and your line has plenty of noise margin left in it to give you quite a bit more - between 3 and 4mbit would be my estimate. Anything you do with your kit such as rewiring or trying alternate routers etc will make no difference since your line is fixed rate.

Basically try support again and try to get through to someone who actually has a clue what they're doing or move to another ISP. I'd suggest the latter anyway, since Virgin ADSL is diabolical.

worked through the "email" which i've done in the past, the standard crap... use the test socket, move the router, run antivirus...

I got down to the bottom and it advised I ran the bt/speedchecker... this is the result, does this confirm i'm on the fixed profile?

Download speedachieved during the test was - 448 Kbps
For your connection, the acceptable range of speeds is 50-500 Kbps.
Additional Information:
Your DSL Connection Rate :576 Kbps(DOWN-STREAM), 288 Kbps(UP-STREAM)
IP Profile for your line is - 500 Kbps

Help here people....

Just spoken to virgin...he said i'm on a fixed rate of 512k because that's the most the line can handle, it's pointless going onto a variable rate or "bumping" the speed up with the space the noise is using as it'll constantly drop out and be unstable and will automatically revert back to the 512k....

I asked him to try putting me on the variable rate and he said no - it's pointless because you'll always be disconnected from the internet and won't be able to download as it'll always cut out....

What's the crack?

THANKS

i appreciate that, however, i'd have to buy myself out the contract, is there anything I can argue, as in what exactly to say, atm i'm saying, "i've been told by experts that..." etc
