Help needed - fuel injection on MKII Golf GTIs

Just spoke to my brother about this and hes given another sugestion after looking at your pics. Check for air leaks between the manifold and fuel distributer and also are you sure your getting a good spark in time?

Defo getting a good spark mate, got a new coilpack, sparks and rotor arm and cap on there. the RAC guy said the electrics were fine, he thought fueling too.

The rubber bellows thing was done up tightly, plus remember it was working perfectly and nothing was done between then and when it broke so I dont think it would be anything like that

Really is most frustrating

No I disconnected the fuel lines at the fuel injection system end, not the injectors and next to nothing was coming out. And no it doesnt fire even slightly

The electrics in terms of sparks are perfect. The RAC guy tested them and you could see clearly it was sparking perfectly. The engine also has good compression so it's not that either, and was working perfectly up until it's 2 week holiday

Any more ideas peeps?

very blocked fuel filter? kinked pipe?

The pump relay is probably fine - but the pump won't run unless the engine is running (apart from a brief spurt when the engine is cranked) so you need to get it running to test the injectors. If you can't get the injectors out then you'll have to disconnect the hoses from them and just test that part of the system. Unless the pump is running you won't get much if any resistance at the airflow meter (the metal plate). You can only test that with the pump running. It acts on a plunger inside the fuel distributor.

2 weeks is not really long enough for the plunger to gum up, but stranger things have happened.

Have you tried to bump start it rather then just jump start or turning the key.

I had a problem a bit like this and the recovery bloke just turned the engine over for about 20 minutes, started whining trying to catch, coughing and then suddenly fired up starting ok and then no more problems at all.

Old cars just hate to be left alone in their old age I reckon.

Just dont use the starter motor for more then 30 seconds at a time, I think that can harm it

Strikes me as being a fuel not getting to injectors problem. Number of things it could be on a K-jet system:

Clogged line or filter.
Dead pump (but we know it is running).
Clogged pick-up in tank.
Seized plunger in the fuel distributor.

The last one is the most likely as the car worked 2 weeks ago and nothing has been touched in the meantime. And the way to test for that is as described above.

My own K-jet system sat for 14 YEARS and the plunger had seized. And the pump had died. After changing the pump and cleaning up the plunger, all was well.
