I had a GTX 275 which served me well for a good few years but has now died. I don't really need anything more powerful than the 275 (only play WoW really) and don't want to spend a lot of money, if I can get away with only spending £100 I will.

Any suggestions?

I would like it to be more power effecient and if I can get more power all well and good.

CPU is a Q6600
MB is an ABIT IP35 Pro

This is an old PC and at the moment I've no money to upgrade the rest of the parts.

Tbh i would look at second hand on Gumtree or ebay. Unless you've got access to MM. Sometimes they've got decent videocards in clearence section but couldn't find anything extrordinary.

7850/7950 would see you through and can be had for under 100£

Just make sure your powersupply has got enough umph to power. Might be worth upgrading the powersupply in the near future.
 
look at the GTX 770 on Ebay, £105 for a 4gb model or around £80 for a 2gb model, personally I'd go for the 4. OR you could go for a Radeon HD 7970 GHZ in ebay which again is round the £80-£100 ish mark with 3gb Vram, but gets looked after by amd more than what kepler has (770) personally if your power supply will take it I'd look for a 7970
 
Im happy to go for a second hand card like a 770 or 7950 if its good value so do you have a rough idea how much faster, percentage wise, they are than the 750ti for example?

Look at the 7970GHZ edition matey on Ebay you can get a gigabyte one right now for around £80! having a quick look here it can be anywhere from 50-100% faster than the 750 Ti and compared to the 275 it's night and day! heck it'll even play todays games at 1080p high settings granted might not be 60fps all times but it'll do well! and with Vulkan and dx12 the 7970 will start to shine again definitely compared to it's competitors of that time (GTX 680)

770 is probably about 60%+ better than the 750Ti
Not sure about the 7950 but it'll be a massive jump from the 750Ti still.

Just make sure your power supply has the right leads to power it. Try to get a single 6pin card if you can as i think the 750Ti is single 6pin???

OP had a 275 GTX beforehand which has a 215 watt tdp the 7970 isn't much more :)
 
Would be good to know what powersupply you've got. IF your system is older than 5yrs I'd strongly advice you to upgrade the PSU, even if it's something relatively cheap.
 
Its a 600w unit i believe but sadly cant remeber brand although OCZ rings a bell.

The 275 is indeed a 6+6 pin power connector Im looking at the 7970 would the 8+6 pin lay out be a problem or is it just a case of getting an adaptor?

I wouldn't pair a 7970 with a 450 watt power supply that's more dangerous than keeping his current psu. if it's ocz then they're a good manufacturer, not the best but it does as it's intended to do very well, if it's a 600 watt power supply it should have at least 1 x 8 pin connector normally it's a 6 pin with a little 2 pin hanging on the side? if not then I don't like using adapters though it can be done it isn't the best solution I'd look at getting something that takes 2 x 6 pins which even the 770 doesn't unfortunately, the only card which does take 2 x 6 pins would be a GTX 680 which can still pack a punch in todays games despite the age of the card! coming upto 4 years old already I believe? :o if you're happy using a connector however then grab a 7970 like I said though a 600 watt psu should have an 8 pin and a 6 already :)
