Help needed. how extract audio from a MKV file and add audio into a MKV file as a second audio.

Hi

I was wondering if anyone has any suggestions on a good quality easy to use freeware tools that will be able extract audio from a MKV file without losing sound quality and able to add audio into a MKV file as a second audio?

It would also be great if someone knows of a good online guide that uses good quality tools that show you step by step instructions exactly how to do what I have asked.

The reason why i`m asking is because I have a 1080p MKV file that has a DTS HD 7.1 track only and I would like to extract a normal DTS 5.1 track from another MKV file and add the extracted
audio into the 1080p MKV file so I can choose either the HD 7.1 track or normal DTS 5.1 when playing it back.

mkvextractgui and mkvtoolnix should do what you want. check videohelp.com for guides.

Thanks mate for responding but I tried using those tools but the only problem is when using the finished MKV file, windows 7 seems get that rather annoying
memory leak problem you get with the way some MKV files are made that slows the computer down and eats all your available memory.

The original MKV file doesn`t have this problem , so it must be down to the way mkvtoolnix makes the finished MKV file.

how about AVI MUX GUI? (change output format to MKV in settings)

I take it that tool will do the exact same thing as mkvtoolnix and will also mak a MKV file with the exact same quality as the original?

Yea, the quality is 100% original, no transcoding

Is the default settings for MKV in the program perfectly fine or would I need to change any of them for what i`m wanting to do?

Can you give me an idea how to reproduce this problem (program, version and settings) as I've never come across it before. From my point of view the workflow is simple using mkvtoolnix (mmg.exe) alone.

Sorry, i`m not sure how you could produce this problem as I think it has to do with the MKV file I have and the finished results from mkvtoolnix.

I gave AVI MUX GUI a try and now the memory leak problem is now gone.

So I'm going to assume that you've only ever seen the problem once or that it only occurs with MKVs that you originally produced and then attempted to remux with the mkvtoolnix suite. Otherwise, you'd be able to give me the file details and settings I requested?

No, I have had the same problem before with certain MKV files I have goten from the internet.

The files still play just fine in windows 7 but as soon as you open the folder containing the MKV file, if you look in windows 7 task maniger you will see that something is eating up all of the available memory and windows starts to feel sluggish.

This doesnt happen with all MKV files, just some of them.
