Help Needed: How should I upgrade/Or should I buy new?

Hi all,

I could really use someone with some expertise - For i have absolutely non at all concerning my current PC and a need to upgrade. I originally brought my current PC many years ago from Overclockers and it's not had many upgrades since at all (aside from some RAM) but now i'm starting to suffer from new games that I'm unable to play. My questions are:

1) Should I upgrade my existing PC by buying new components (i.e. is it cheaper and more effective to do so)
OR
2) Should I buy an entirely new PC ?

The decision is mainly about money for me as i'm incredibly broke :-( so spending any money at all is bad, but my PC Is my main form of entertainment so any advise on doing this would be appreciated.

Here is my current PC specs - notably my Graphics Card, Processor and memory are certainly very old/poor.

Buy new would be my advice - very little (if anything) from your existing setup would be useful.

What budget do you have, are you happy to build yourself, what is the pc used for and will you need a copy of Windows along with the tower?

It's used for gaming but i'd not say I always go for high end gaming. So I'm not always playing the latest games etc but would love one that could!

I really don't know what budget to set as I really aren't well off but yes it would need windows.

Here's a decent build - a quick i3 with hyperthreading, SSD and decent GPU should handle anything you throw at it at 1080p.

Thank you for the above - Unfortunately i've no experience in building and i'd have to buy a pre-built on finance more than likely but the above gives me some ideas!
 
Building your PC will save you a good amount of money which you could either save or put towards better parts.

Here is my build, which is an AMD build instead of Intel.

The RX 480 should trump the GTX1060 in most new DX12 games but with DX11, the 1060 does win but only by a few FPS.

If you're alarmed by the cost, you can spread out the upgrades by getting the GPU first (you may need to upgrade Windows as well) with the rest later.
 
You could find a case that you like and then see if you can find hardware that fits it. E.g. you find a really nice micro-ATX case, so you then look at what m-ATX boards are available.

I really wouldn't suggest going with an AMD FX build. The CPUs are old technology (2012 I think) and you'd be building a system around a motherboard/CPU combo that could quickly become obsolete.
