Hi guys I need some advice

I just built my PC after having loads of problems with another e-tailer and a faulty watercooler.

The PC spec is as follows

P4 805d
Asus p5wd2 premium
2x 1gb ddr2 667
1x 40gb ide hdd
2x 300gb sata2 hdd
1x dvd writer
512mb ati x1800xt
650w akasa psu
alphacool watercooling parts
and assorted case fans

The problem I am having is that the machine works but with no display at boot up, I get 1 long beep and then 3 short beeps from the bios (indicating a dead graphics card) but if I leave it I can hear the pc boot to windows but still get no display.

I purchased the card from overclockers and I had this problem when I first installed it so I arranged for a rma but after speaking to them the guy I spoke to was really helpful and gave me some pointers (fantastic service much better than the other e-tailers I have dealt with) and also explained that if the card was not faulty I would be charged £25 or so to return it to me (understandable really).

So I Decided to try and get it running and It did boot.

But now I have just reinstalled my watercooling kit after doing an external loop test to ensure no leaks and tried to fire the machine up and once again I get the long beep then 3 short beeps.

Should I assume this card is borked and rma it to overclockers or does anyone have any other suggestions for me.

I have tried the machine with nothing but the watercooler and graphics card connected I have also made sure all the power connectors are plugged into the mobo and card.

Thanks for your help in advance

Well it seems you have got everything connected up correctly from your post, if it is not displaying anything at all and the Bios is beeping then maybe it is faulty.

Have you tried reseating the card?

If you have and your sure you have pushed it in far enough then its RMA time, they sent you a faulty card so will refund you all the postage aswell if you ask. :)

Thanks m8 I am going to try it in another pci-e slot to see if that could be it maybe.

could it be the psu being underpowered ? it's a branded psu and supports sli so I just cannot see it being that but you never know.

does anyone have the same psu and card? and could maybe advise me.

Thanks again guys

I highly doubt its the PSU, especially if the BIOS is saying its the card.

Do you have a PCI graphics card or another PCI-E you could put in to see if it works?

I put the card into the second pci-e slot and it fired up so it looks like a faulty slot.

Do Asus handle any european RMA's themselves because I do not think I can deal with the crap company I got the mobo from it took 6 weeks of messing about going back and forth to get the watercooler swapped out.

If I leave the card in the 2nd slot will it be a problem (slower performance etc.?
