Help needed, not sure on Camera

personally my shout would be 450D, as you said you are new to DSLR's but I'm sure as you learn how to use the camera you'll start using it more and more. The step up from 1000D to 450D is significant especially at the relatively small cost increase. If you buy a 1000D and really start using it you'll be wanting to upgrade it very quickly I'm sure.

Feature wise the 450D has enough features to be a great first buy into DSLR's ... personally I've never put much stock in th 1000D

main differences - Larger 3inch screen on 450D compared to 2.5inch on 1000D
- 2MP higher res (12 vs 2)
- 9 vs 7 point Auto Focus
- Raw burst rate on 1000D is only 1.5fps ... it's 3.5 fps on 450D
- 14bit vs 12bit processing

there are other differences as well but more feature related.

recomendation, put aside an hour or so and go to a retail outlet like jessops and ask if you can see both cameras. Have a bit of a play

As a canon man I'd recomend a 450D (1000D dosen't support live view :/) or a 500D like myself ... you get 3.5fps ish 15Mpix images on constant fire with the 500D which will be useful for motorsport.

um...the 1000d most definitely DOES support live view.

features wise, the 1000d falls between the 400d and the 450d for the most part, but with fewer af points (still more than the 3000d).

basically take a 400d, swap in the digic III processor from the 450d, add the menu system etc from the 450d, add live view, give it 7 af points and there you have a 1000d.

the 450d is still a better camera, but the 1000d is by no means bad, and is far more capable than a lot of people seem to give it credit for

Just listening in as I'm getting a bonus from work and looking at getting the 450d and then some lenses but just looking and learning atm.

I'd buy the 1000D, gives you a head start on buying lenses.

My camera has only 8.2 mega pixels and 12 bit processing and I've never had a problem with it. You've just got to get the shot right in camera. Burst rate- well you tend to shoot jpegs for sports anyway so no big deal. As for the 2.5in LCD, well I'm using a 2in LCD that's invisible in anything but the lowest light and it doesn't bother me either.

Just trust me put the money into the lenses. Lenses are so much more important.

Also, if your not bothered about buying used - buy a 30D. I've used one as a back-up camera recently, excellent camera. Just as good as a 450D, but built much tougher.

I have to buy new and it has to be from Argos as i have points to use up.

I just don't know what to do / expect.

I don't think i want to be spending a fortune on kit for the amount i use my Camera.
the 1000d from Argos has the two lens's, will they be good enough for a novice?

Yeah they'll be a great start, perect for general use, I'd also throw in a 50mm f/1.8 for when light gets low.

Then, if you get more serious about it, consider upgrading the lenses to faster/higher quality lenses. But you'll have a good range covered and should be fine with shooting a bit of motorsports, general photos ect. ect. with that set-up.

I opted for the 450d over the 1000d, for the benefits already mentioned above. I bought new off the bay for £400 which included the kit lens so i was happy. It was worth the little price difference from the 1000d in my case :)

Will have tours of them all.

You can always to a high street camera shop and have a look, they'll probably have them all in stock.

I do have to say the 1000D looks to be an excellent deal, by the look of the description the extra lens should be about £250 on it's own (someone knows this stuff better then me have a look). You can always buy a better body and keep the lenses at a later date.

Can I throw a s/hand 40D into the mix, 6fps comes in handy for motorsport! And better built than the 450D, 1000D etc.

*Ade runs and hides*

ahh!!! Grrr.
Just been to Argos to get a 450D - No stock. Ok Ok, how about the 1000D?

Erm we show one in stock...

No return from Argos Munchkin, so i left the store.
