Hi guys, I need some help.

My PC wont boot, it turns on but powers itself off after 2 seconds, before the bios post.

The weird thing though is that the machine stays on longer if the processor isn't installed. It was driving me up the wall, so I thought I'd try it ;)

Anyway, different processor and the same issue.

Do you think its the motherboard that is the issue?

Thanks

Gareth

If it's a new build make sure you have the 4 or 8 pin for CPU power in, often gets missed and that both power connectors are in for the gpu.

Can try with single Memory stick in various slots, also try a CMOS reser, may of already been mentioned.

Make sure that there is no movement between the MB and the tray and that all the screws are securely fitted to the risers.

Unplug all peripherals, hdds, sata and ide cables etc from the MB (remembering to remove the power from the HDD’s and optical drives too). Leave only the gfx, cpu and 1 stick of memory connected.

Ideally this would be done outside of the case - but you may get lucky.

Clear the CMOS again and test. If it posts connect a keyboard and sit in the BIOS and load optimised defaults.

After that start adding components until it buckles.

If you non of the above works - it would be advisible to test the PSU and then run a skeleton setup outside of the case. (Or if you have access to spare components try different: memory, PSU and gfx etc)

Thanks for all the advice guys, I will do as you suggested, hopefully I will get it working again.

I will let you know how I get on :)
