HI all
I've got a friend with an Acer Laptop 3100WLMI which is a 3200+Sempron processor
I'd like to be able to change the processor for a Sempron if possible However I'm slightly confused.

I've got the service manual and it says this:
Processor

AMD TurionTM 64 X2 dual-core TL-50/
TL-52/TL-56/TL-60/TL-62 processor or
higher

AMD SempronTM 3200+/3400+/3500+
or higher

Package Turion 939 pin lidded micro PGA Sempron 754 pin lidded micro PGA

Unfortunately he lives in Ireland and I dont see him often or I could just open his laptop and look!

I've also checked and it seems that the Sempron and Turion is interchangable however the 754 and 939 is throwing me totally because it appears they are different packages?

It has at the moment the Sempton 3200+ processor in it, yet all the research I've done says this is a 939 or am2 devive and not a 754 pin?

Can anyone confirm or deny this please and tell me the best upgrade options from a 3200+ Sempron processor in an Aspire laptop
Ideally a Turioun if possible as I believe this would the AMD equivelant of replacing a celeron with a pentium in an intel machine

What's more confusing is later in the service manual it gives part numbers for the cpus

for example
CPU AMD SEMPRON 512K 1.6G SMS3200HAX4CM
CPU AMD SEMPRON 256K 1.8G SMS3400HAX3CM
CPU AMD SEMPRON 512K 1.8G SMS3500HAX4CM

CPU AMD TURION 64 256K+256K 1.6G TMDTL50HAX4CT
CPU AMD TURION 64 512K+512K 1.6G TMDTL52HAX5CT
CPU AMD TURION 64 512K+512K 1.8G TMDTL56HAX5CT

on researching these it seems these are all 638-pin lidless micro-PGA
Socket S1

Does this mean that any socket S1 Turion would fit?
such as the TL-64 processor which is a socket S1 Turion?
although probably too expensive to contemplate for an old machine (around 3 yrs old)

get him to download and run cpu-z that'll tell him which chip its running

Cant believe I didnt think of that, especially as I use it!

Anyone any the wiser and be able to tell me what Turion would simple fit into that socket and replace the Sempron?
ideally an X2 if possible! although I THINK all Turion's are X2?

I'm thinking of the TL-60 which the book says came supplied in some laptops so assuming the circutry is the same it would simply swap over.
the power rating is 31W as well

It would be nice to fit a TL-68 in there but other than the price there is an extra 4W of heat/power with that one (35W compared to 31W) and I'm not sure how it would work or if it would actually fit and work!
