Hello all,
I've just done a very stupid thing. I accidently quick formated a drive thinking it was my old drive. I need a good, free data recovery programme or a method of getting my data back. I have tried one program but it just came up with a list of 36,000 files with no file names or directory information. Anybody have any suggestions please.

Cheers

Pete

Quick format.

I have nearly all the data in various places but it would take me a couple of evenings to re-sort it all so as it was a quick format I was hoping I could just undelete the files (those where the days).

Esp with a Quick format, your data will be there, problem is they were probably in "MY Docs" now Windows has made new "My Doc", you should get them back.

If you have a spare drive I'd image the entire drive before doing anything else, so that if one recovery/repair app makes a hash of it, you can try again using another.

There are many unformat tools, R-Studio seems OK: http://www.r-studio.com/

Aside: Perhaps a bit of a review of recovery utilities may be in order, what do you guys think? Might make it a pet project if there's enough interest.

Hello all,
thanks very much for your help. I tried a few programes and although I could rescue the data I couldn't retrieve it with the file names intact so I have given in and re-loaded the data from a two week old back up.

Cheers for the help.

Pete

PS A review of the available software would be brilliant.
