rebuilding an old system

should the hard drives be on one cable ide and the disc drives on another or should there be a pair on each..

Its better to have hard drives on one cable than a dvd and hard drive mixed on the same i believe.

When i was using IDE hdd and dvd, i saw no difference how you pair them, if you'r connecting them on the same cable make sure that jumpers are in right place. hdd for master, dvd for slave.

right wouldn't load windows at all..disconnected one pairing and now it seems to be working..lol

any ideas..

It makes no difference in terms of performance if you have devices connected to either Primary or Secondary or indeed on separate cables/ports, providing you have selected the correct master/slave combinations of course, which may explain the above.

#PORT# ==== SECONDARY(SLAVE) ==== PRIMARY (MASTER) # end cable

cheers for your help but nothing will make it boot up...its in the bin now...lol
