Cut a long story short. My xbox has failed yet again. I was playing the UFC game about an hour ago, online on my first fight. Just taken a guy to the ground and transition to the mount and my xbox crashes with the three red rings of light. It's the 2nd time it's done this and wouldn't turn on. Couple of minutes later it was able to boot up. But I have no confidence it.

So it needs repairing... but I'm not prepared to let them repair. What options do I have? I'm on my 5th xbox 360. At least, I think it's actually my 6th now. So obviously I'm not happy. I've phoned up the xbox customer support and they have agreed to exchange my console with my a new one, but this would take three weeks. Which obviously I'm not prepared to let happen. They have messed my records up and state that I have only sent two back: Rubbish.

So I'm expecting a call back from a supervisor. What do you lot think I can push for? I don't want to send it away only for it to be returned three weeks later. I've pushed for a swap on my doorstep, but the agent was having none of it.

So, what do you reckon then chaps and chappettes, what should I be aiming for? And have you heard of any other such stories and what have they received?

Cheers.

I imagine if you argue enough the supervisor will allow for you to replace it with a new unit. Wait until you hear what he/she says.

They have agreed to replace it with a new unit already. However, it will take up to three weeks for this to happen. Which I've told them "no, not acceptable".

Why isn't it acceptable?

Can you not live without an xbox for 3 weeks?

I've got no problem with living without an xbox for 3 weeks what so ever. I have done this 4 times before when I've sent others away. But my question to you is: "why should I have too?". This is my 5th xbox since launch, this xbox which is currently bricked on my desk at home, I have had since the end of March. That's what... 8 weeks most? It's not acceptable for me to have to keep sending my xbox's back, due to an inherent problem with the console. It's just not right for a piece of hardware to be so unreliable.

My xbox's are well looked after, well ventalated. Don't get abused any they don't really get battered in terms of gaming time either... The original xbox I had on launch is still working, I've had no problems with any of the gamecubes, NES, N64, SNES, Playstation 1, Playstion 2's I've had. All have worked fine in the same location...

So again, my question to you is "why should I have to wait for 3 weeks, for what is effectively not my fault".

Because thats how long they are told to tell you. I know you shouldn't have to, but if thats how long it takes then all you can do is wait.

Maybe i'm just sick of people coming here to say their xbox/PS3 doesn't work. I don't know why people do it.

Where are you storing it? 6th one seems either very unlucky or your fault.

3 weeks is probably a over estimate to cover themselves anyway.

ask for a years live for free, or perhaps some ms points ontop? or even a free upgrade i.e. yours is a premium and you get a new elite back?

There's a reason why I came onto here and and type out the thread, if you read the opening post, you'll see.

I wanted opinions / experiences as to what to expect. Whether or not people know any one who have had one swapped out at their door (just like Sony do), or any thing else which has happened. It's not a normal rant like most. It was actually a request for help and opinions to give me some weight.

I'm storing it on top of my computer desk (big corner desk), with nothing of significance around it, it's well ventilated and I have tried my xbox's both horizontal and vertical. No one touches other than me (no one else in the house who would... no kids etc) and it doesn't get abused.

I'm sure I posted a picture of my set up in my last rant thread I think.

I was waiting for someone to ask hilly what he's doing to his 360's and where he stores them ;)

Personally I think he keeps it in a sauna, wrapped in towels :p

As for your question I'd certainly push for a faster replacement, they've said they'll give you a new one, I have no idea why it's going to take them three weeks to do it.

Cheers.

You won't like what I'm about to say but after 6 360's I'd be aiming myself at the trade-in centre and picking myself up a PS3.

How people put up with this kind of failure rate is beyond me, people wouldn't accept it if their TV/Cooker etc broke down 6 times, but yet people accept it with the 360 when there is a viable alternative in the market place that is much more reliable and built to a much higher standard.

I'd be lying if I said I hadn't considered it. The problem I have however, is I have around 40 or so 360 games, around 6 controllers, three guitars, drum kits, MS points, arcade games and a lot of friends who I regually play with.

That's a hell of a lot of stuff to 'lose' by going to a playstation 3. That's the main dilema I have.

Obviously though, I'm not accepting this failure rate, which is why I'm awaiting a call back from the organ grinder, rather than the monkey.

Maybe they kept sending your old ones back to you which is why they've all lasted such a short time. You only actually got TWO new ones? :D

3 weeks for a replacement is a long time, but tbh you are getting another new one so I'd just grin and bear it. Surely you have something else you can use in the meantime? Such as a PS3, Xbox (1st one), PS2, Megadrive, SNES or PC?

haha sauna? No no, not at all! My room isn't that bad really! My PC has never overheated, any of the other consoles I have used which I listed about have never failed either!

I'll post up a picture and show you all where my 360 is.

Yeah that's a hell of a lot of games and peripherals, that would be a big move taking that all that into consideration, I guess all you can do is try and wangle something extra out of them then for your inconvenience, good luck.

I have plenty to keep myself occupied with, but that's besides the point. The point I'm trying to make is that I shouldn't have to wait for an extended period of time, for something which is out of my control.

Cheers chief, liek I said though, it has definately crossed my mind. I wouldn't really mind selling all the stuff I've listed above, it wouldn't be too bad. However, the friends which I have on my list, the majority of them don't have PS3's, and that's what really can't be replaced.

Cheers for the good luck wish, I'll see what happens!
