Ok I've recently upgraded my pc but I fear its running a little hot, I sung the praises of my asus p5w too soon me thinks.

OK current spec

CM Wavemaster case (changed to nexus fans but not quiet & hot)
Asus p5w DH part of the heat problems me thinks
Q6600 go stepping with an AF7
ASUS 8800GT
I'm keeping the cpu, gfx card & the cooler so just need so recomedations for a cool & quiet case & a cheap but reasonable mainboard.

Cheers in advance

I think the board is getting hot mainly as the fan on the 8800gt is at 100% cpu at idle is 45c so not sure what its getting to when running. I've got about £140 to spend now as ocuk off free delivery :D

the fan on the 8800 @ 100% is down to beta nvidia drivers. Just to be sure, download the newest approved drivers from the nvidia site. Run Orthos and see what you cpu temp increases to.

they are official drivers, never liked beta ones. The asus p5wdh was always a hot mainboard anyway also cooling for the case is done by 80m fans & no matter what ones I pick they still seem noisey so yet again a bit of advice would be welcome.

Where's the noise actually coming from?

If it's the graphics card, you need one of these

If it's the case fans, you need to slow them down (temperatures permitting) or switch to a case with 120mm fans (Antec p182 or Solo), but you'll still need to run them at way less than 12V for quietness.

If it's the PSU, get a Corsair.

Can't really imagine that changing mobo is going to make much difference.

how many 80mm fans do you have running, all the same make/model ?

try leaving the case side off and disconnecting some of the fans see if it reduces the noise.

if the board is getting hot thats down to the case cooling mainly, unless components on it are actually heating up from the voltages being supplied.

The case is cooled via 3 nexus 80mm case fans connected to an akassa fan controller & also on that controller there is an AF7 cpu cooler. The noise is a little less with *** side off and yeah its cooler but it sorta defeats the object of having a case then, also *** dust element.

Thanx for the help anyway :D

the reason i asked for you to take the side case off, is to find if it runs cooler, if it does then it points towards the case airflow not working as well as it could.

Also 80mm fans are a fair bit noisier than 120mm ones.

Have you got all the cables tidied up and out the way ?

Also what layout have you got for the 3 case fans, as in which blow air into the case and which suck air out.

cables for the airflow on the lower part of the case are good & upper seems ok now I've removed the other drives out.

with the wave master its 2 80mm fans at the front & one at the back, 2 at the front are at the bottom of the case so that could cause some issues. I think *** wavemaster is not a case for cooling or silence

depends if the 2 at the front are pushing air in and its un obstructed it should be ok.

try just using 1 at the front 1 at the back see if it affects the temps.
