help needed urgently with new build

Hi, i have ordered a few items for a new build i have been looking into but i have hit a hurdle within the first 5 mins of build.

1 x Intel Core i3 2100 3.10GHz Socket 1155 3MB L3 Cache Retail Boxed Processor 254976
1 x Gigabyte GA-H61MA-D3V H61 Socket 1155 7.1 Channel HD Audio mATX Motherboard
1 x Casecom 6788 All Black Case 172779
1 x Be Quiet 530W Pure Power PSU 190751
1 x Crucial 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 1333Mhz Ballistix Sport Memory Kit CL9 1.5V 342351
1 x ASUS HD 6850 Direct CU 1GB GDDR5 Dual DVI HDMI Display Port Out Graphics Card 244442

these are the main bits to the build bought at ******... ( i know im sorry! )

I am trying to get some sort of power into the unit and am having no joy at all.. I have attached the 20pin and 4pin into the main 24 pin socket on the mobo and have attached the 4 pin cpu into the socket as well, I have put the cpu in and memory and try to get it to post.

The fan on the cpu then spins for i'd say about 2 secs then stops, when i power off the fan spins again ( discharging power i would think)

I have taken it all out of the case and tried it on a testbed but nothing im doing is working at all. im at a loss and getting frustrated at the thought of sending it all back again .

is there anyone out there with the same sort of setup at all that could give me some guidance?

Did you install the mobo standoffs?

yes all 6 standoffs are fitted and only the ones that are being used are fitted.

I'm tempted to blame the PSU, but there is so many other possibilities.

Try and borrow a PSU off someone or use a spare one to see if it's the PSU that's causing the problem.

Have you tried clearing cmos by taking the mobo battery out for a few minutes?

im just about to try another psu, i shall also try the battery... i hate when plans dont come together :/

Do you have a case speaker?

have you tried resetting the cmos?

Have you tried with one stick of ram at a time?

Hiya, no the case has no speakers whatsoever.

I have tried this with a differnt psu and still the same result. it looks as though either the mobo or cpu have gone..
whats the most common thing to go in these two? would it be likely that the mobo has gone or the cpu? or should i just send them both back to the supplier?
