Help needed with a VAC banning

My son was almost in tears today because VALVE have banned him from playing online because he as been caught cheating. He told me he did try a cheat out a week or so ago to see what it was like but never used it again.

He's had this account for a couple of years (HL2 Silver package) and this was is first mistake. Can anything be done or will I have to buy a new account for him?

If i have to buy a new account for him whats the cheapest way of doing it? he basicly wants what he had on the silver package.

I believe he's learnt his lesson and won't be doing it again. Don't be too harsh he's only young!
 
From what I remember the VAC system scans your computer looking for cheat software, if it finds any it will flag your account. There is roughly a 3 day delay, sometimes more, before the account is actually banned.

Unfortunately the ban is permanent so you will have to buy a new account. You should be able to buy a package through Steam that suits.

I would suggest you make sure your son knows it is a permanent ban next time he gets curious ;)

Yeah delete the hack and all of the valve software. Buy him a new account via steam and tell him not to hack again :p

Valve NEVER unban accounts.
 
Just checked on steam and it'd gonna cost $79.95+tax :eek: to get what he had, That's a lot of car washing!

Does he actually use all that stuff? He could get Counter Strike Source and Half Life2 for around £15 probably

He plays CSS, DODS, CS 1.6 and DOD but you only seem to get the older CS 1.6
and DOD in the top ($79.95) package unless anyone knows different :(
 
if you buy a normal hl1 from the shops then enter the cd key on steam you get cs1.6 and dod1.3 for free and all you do then is buy the css with dods package

It's on and off. If somebody young and naive like the OP's son goes and finds any old cheat, they'll get caught pretty easily because they could be downloading a cheat that's a year old and detectable by VALVE.

You son should still be able to play on non-secure servers, but if he does want to play on a secure server, he's either going to have to wait a year or so, or buy one of the Steam packages out there.

If he just wants to play CS:S, DoD:S, CS1.6 and DOD go for the following:

Keep the existing Steam account for single player games, like Half-Life 2 etc, and buy the following on a new account:

Source Multiplayer Pack - $29.95 ~ £19
OR
Counter-Strike: Source - Retail ~ £15
Comes with CS:S, DoD:S and HD2: DM.

Counter-Strike via Steam ~ $9.95 ~ £6.50
Comes with CS1.6 and CS:CZ

So that's about £20ish-£25 depending on where you get it.

Might be best to do a complete format/re-install to make sure the PC is clean of the cheat(s) first as many try to hide in obscure places VAC might miss until it's updated.

agreed, I did it years ago with CS 1.6, I am not proud, dont flame me, i was getting bored with CS so installed a Wall Hack / Aim Bot etc and owned big style.
But then you get bored easily, what with the speed hack, people kind of know your cheating when you have killed the entire other team within 6 seconds of a round starting.lol

Fun whilst it lasted, I never got caught mind you. But I was younger and just got bored with the game, did it with SOF2 as well,

I was bad boy.

Now I only play BF2 and certainly dont cheat on there. Spent too long building my stats up.

VAC finds the older cheats, people make newer ones which aren't detected by VAC. When VAC updates, they make new ones which get around the anti cheat system again.

If he wants to play again you'll need to make a new account and buy the games again. Valve won't unban him.
 
No point in asking VALVE for unban, they wont. Lession learnt, cheating is wrong, immoral and ruins the game for everyone else. It looks like you'll have to buy him a new one and explane to him cheating is agaist the VAC.
 
I thought VAC bans got removed after 6 years? I might be talking rubbish though so ignore me :p

If he plays on regular servers the admins there may be quite sharp and notice the same IP under a new SteamID and stop him using their servers anyway - I know that happenend in HLCCL :o
