hi i have just built my new i7 rig but i cannot get a stable 4ghz clock

fails within minutes of using prime 95

i have spent the last day solid trying to get voltages etc correct but i cant get it stable

i have put the cpu upto 1.4V havent gone any higher
Memory has been put up to 1.64V
Memory has been left on auto and been changed to run on timmings of 8-8-8-24

Windows 7 seems to running ok when overclocked to 4ghz just when prime 95 is tested the machine locks up

Really need some expert advice from you guys to help me get this 4ghz stable please as i dont know what else to do

Im not familar at all with the new LG 1366 setup

hi thanks for your reply can you explain more please what you mean when you say and ensure your vtt is within 0.45 of your memory, as im not good when it comes to overclocking terms

I would think that at 4.0 any i7 would be 4 ghz stable. When it fails in prime do you get a blue screen? If so do you get one that says clock interuption or memory error? Is your ram 1600mhz?

EDIT: Also, what is your cooler and temps during prime?

ram is running at 1600, i get blue screens and straight freezes, havent read whats on screen when i get blue screens though

what would be ideal if someone could give me a list of bios settings to change but saying that i guess that everyones machine may respond different

my machine only goes wrong when i run prime otherwise it seems ok

Using a fenrir with push pull fans, when running at stock temps dont go above 60c when on prime, when at 4ghz idle temps are 50c and 80-90 load when on prime , but games or programs will never get cpu in the 80-90s only when using prime at 4ghz

The temps are a lil high even if it would never get pushed that far from normal use, but that's besides the point...

I would go into your bios, and load defaults first.

btw- do you have any kind of OC'ing utility that allows you to make fine tune adjustments? I'm pretty sure the GB's did.

Anyway, I'll try to make this easy for you,

Ram adjustments: just make sure you set your ram to 1066, and a 2:8 divider. (you should be able to locate these settings in bios fairly easily). Also set you ram to 1.65volts if you please but I have 1600mhz OCZ Platinum and get away with 1.55 in bios. the rest of your ram settings can be set to auto or whereever they were.

QPI VOLTS- I have mine OC'd just a hair or two more than what default was

CPU- set to 191bclk and a 20x multiplier. Enable turbo mode, Keep hyperthreading on. Set those volts to 1.24 (which is more than a D0 supposedly needs to get 4.0)

I think that is all I did to get 4.0 and I'm prime stable on a C0/C1

hi thanks for taking the time to write that i will try your settings and post back later with my results

Those settings are pretty common. Your ram will actually run at 1530ish mhz, and your cpu will be a hair over 4ghz. If it's not prime stable there just try slowly upping the vcore but you should surely be able to get stable no higher than 1.32 I would think. Try to read the blue screens, if it says memory failure or anything to do with the memory, than upping the vcore is not going to help any.
