So my original monitor died and I'm stuck with a VGA monitor. It was working fine until the VGA cable broke. I got a replacement cable however the resolution had changed and all my videos became letterboxed when I tried to watch them. I'm aware this can happen as I'm plugging a 4:3 monitor into a 16:9 Laptop, however until I got the new VGA cable it was never this bad. I tried changing the resolution and now it says frequency out of range whenever I go to use it. I've tried booting in safe mode on a lower resolution but then it doesn't even start up. Anyone know what I could do? Thanks

You'll probably have to create a custom resolution/refresh rate entry for the monitor as ime laptop drivers lack full VGA support.

As for getting back into Windows, try rebooting and select "Enable VGA mode" from the boot options.
