Hi all need some help...

My pc locked up yesterday, so i rebooted it and it wouldnt boot kept saying something like "disk boot error please insert system disk and prss ok" so i reset cmos took battery out n NO SWEARING (dunno why) and now im getting a different screen totally... heres a pic http://homepage.ntlworld.com/cozzy.uk/pcpic.JPG
now it stys on this screen and i dont know how to get rid? any help greatly appreciated.

Thats the post screen. Disk boot error means the hardrive died or the wire came off. I suggest you make sure everythings plugged in.. and seated correctly..

Ok everything is seated correctly... but still getting the same screen? when i first reset cmos there was something that said i need to set cpu frequncy in bios or something? maybe thats it...

It would say that you need to set the frequency as when you reset the BIOS, the CPU frequency is set to either default, or a couple of times in the passed with me, it set it very low ie 100Mhz FSB.

With regards to the no system disk error, looks to me like a HD problem, with the PC not recognising it owing to it being corrupt/failed.

fsb is @ 200mhz and its still staying on that page when i try and boot in... gtting annoyed now lol...

Ok got rid of that screen by loaded last cmos settings that were bootable so now my problem is... when i try to load into windows when u get to the screen where the blue loading bar goes side to side the comp restarts. Im guessing i need to format? grrr

i'd suggest trying to boot from an ubuntu live-cd or a windows PE cd.
Would allow you to boot with no hdds plugged in and see if that is the problem :)

might be difficult if you dont have another box to download the above from though

Does sound like your boot HDD has died or is on it's way out.

One quick thing though, are you sure it's not trying to boot from a non boot CD or USB device? I left a USB card reader plugged into mine and it gave me an ASCII character smiley face after post. It was first thing in the morning so I was half asleep and took me a while to work out! Especially as my BIOS is set to boot from the first HDD and nothing else.

Any bootable disc you can use to test? Even a bootable windows setup CD will do. GO into BIOS set the CD/DVD as first boot devie and boot off of the windows CD just to see if it boots up and shows all your drives/partitions as possible install locations.

Your post pic shows x2 HDDs. If you get it back up and running it may be worth installing windows onto the 2nd one and then see what data you can get off of the first and then get a new one ordered.

Ahh, just re-read the thread before posting and it seems your now getting windows to at least attempt to start. You could try a recovery from the windows CD but i still think your safer moving to the 2nd HDD and getting an new one ordered pretty sharpish.
