Thinking of changing from my desktop to a Sony Vaio to save space. The thing is, I know desktop PCs are notoriously hard to shift. Am I better trying to sell it as a full unit, or breaking it up into pieces and selling as parts? It's a self build, so I'm guessing the bits are worth something?

It will be easier to sell it in parts over the internet as most people already have PC's and are looking to either upgrade one part or are looking to replace a faulty part.

I know I can't advertise in this forum, and this isn't an advertisement at all, but if I post my spec, would someone be able to value my components as second hand to give me an idea what they're worth?

You can try and list the spec but im not sure people will value them for you. I would recommend checking ebay to see how much they are selling on their or check computer retailers i.e overclockers to see how much they sell them new or b-grade.

Sadly you can't do price checks here, only in the price checks area of the members market.

Ah, ok.

No problem. Looks like I'll have to plough my way through another 200 posts!

Thanks anyway.

You could drop me an email of what you got at [email protected]

And it depends on what parts you got, usually problem with selling whole PCs is that many ppl don't know what they're worth, especially custom builts.

It's fun that you will sell lets say a DELL with Q6600, crap p35 locked no name mobo, useless cooling, no name DDR2, chinese dell PSU and 8800GT for 200 more than custom built Q6600 with abit p35 pro, good memory like OCZ/Geil/Gskill, tagan/corsair/seasonic PSU and lets say tuniq tower just because normal ppl that aint know about this stuff will think the DELL is better because its DELL :/.

So unless u know someone that will know what is overclocking, and how much better custom high quality parts are, you will have tough time selling the whole setup.
