Hi there,

I have just bought a new PC and it works fine.
However, when I hook it up to my current monitor I see the boot screen and Windows loading screen, then it goes black and says "Out of Range".
I have looked around on the web and found that using safe mode to alter the resolution should fix it, but I still get the "Out of Range" message after the Windows loading screen.
It worked fine in the shop and also when I hooked it up to my TV.
Does anyone have any suggestions as to the problem?

Are you saying you get the out of range message while in safemode or after making changes in safe mode and booting back into windows? You should be able to get into windows in safe mode then change the resolution down to the lowest resolution then save it then reboot into normal mode and adjust the resolution to the native of the monitor.

I can get into safe mode, but whenever I reboot the screen always says that its out of range - I've set the resolution in the display settings on control panel to 800 x 600. Is there somewhere else I'm supposed to do this in safe mode for the PC to use normally?

It could also be the frequency is out of range, set it to 800x600 60hz in safe mode then reboot, apply the settings then reboot.

I don't have the option of changing the frequency - my monitor is getting a bit old now and only goes up to 60hz. I'm getting a new one for my birthday though.
Is it more a problem with the monitor than the PC, as when it was built it was tested and worked fine but I'm not sure where the problem is as my monitor worked fine with my old PC.

When booting press f8
You will be presented with a menu select "enable VGA mode"

once in windows select your resolution and refresh rate

The refresh rate is in advanced options under the monitor tab, it is probably set higher than 60 which is why the monitor won't display it.
