My son is getting into pc gaming, at the moment he has a ps4 and an xbox so im looking into getting him a gaming pc but really unsure what im looking for, do i go Amd or Intel? Radeon Or Nvidia? its all so confusing i have a budget of £750 and will get the monitor mouse etc seperate and ideas what to get?

Welcome to the forum!

Hardware can be a bit of a jungle! Are you looking for a pre-built, or are you going to self build? Your money will go a bit further if self building.

Whatever you choose, my first bit of advice is don't rush into buying anything; do your research and get some feedback from real people, that way you won't end up with a potato :)

What sort of games will your son be playing? Will you need a copy of windows including in the price? And do you know what resolution he'll be playing at? I would assume 1080p

Thanks for replying, im looking at a pre-built machine with a view to building one in around 18 months if his interest is still there for pc gaming. The games he plays are Gta, Cod, Borderlands and Fallout type games. Not sure on the OS im undecided on Windows or linux, but suggestions are more than welcome.

Honestly if you're not doing it for another 18 months, I wouldn't even be looking at what's available now, as there will be newer and more powerful hardware available by the time you come to buy.

But what that means is you have 18 months to learn how to build a PC, spend a couple of quid on Gumtree on an old banger and watch some build videos on YouTube. Ask some questions on here and by the time you have stripped it down and rebuilt it a couple of times you'll easily know enough to build your own machine ;)

Wait until the bundles come with Nvidia's new GPUs (two months or so). Then choose the old GPU and save loads.

You want the SSD as the first drive and the HDD as the second, and I would get a 240 GB SSD, not 120 GB. You might consider dropping the HDD entirely and getting a 480+ GB SSD.

Really, I'd build one straight off. Go for an ITX system in a Cougar QBX case or Coolermaster CM110. ATX cases are huge and may not get Spousal Approval.

I'm with you now.

I'd go with Quartz here and say build now rather than a pre-built if you;re going to build at some point anyway. There's just so many more options availiable to you, and your money goes further.

Something along the lines of this perhaps?

My basket at Overclockers UK:

Total: £630.14
(includes shipping: £12.30)

Case is upto you really, so just swap out for one you like. There's enough room in the budget to grab a better GPU, k-series CPU cooler and board for overclocking if that's your thing or whatever.

That's if you HAVE to have a PC right now. If it were my money, I'd hang on a little and wait for both Nvidia's and AMD's new GPUs to come to market, and if it's not too far off, AMD's "zen" CPU's. That way you have the choice of rand new cutting edge tech, and last gen, (hopefully heavily) discounted hardware.

Implosiveturnip, Thanks for your imput, i'll got through what you've suggested as i have decided to build one now as you and Quartz have made me see sense so i thank you both, also whilst im here can you suggest a monitor and Keyboard/mouse?.
