Help!

By BFG 8800 gts arrived today, I got a new PSU for it (600w with proper pci-e connectors) but my computer won't boot when I put the card back in.

I have tried putting the old card in and it works, so it is definatly this one. I have checked the connections and connected the pci-e power cable. When I press the power button, the computer powers up, but nothing comes on the screen, and none of the keyboard lights light up.

What could be causing this?

Spec-
Abit AN8-V motherboard
Athlon x2 3800
2gig generic memory
onboard sound
various sata harddrives and ide optical drives...

Does it POST with the card in mate. (i.e. Beep) Or does it just sit there doing nothing. Does the mobo have another PCI-E slot you could try? CMOS reset?

What was your old card as well. It wasn't an ATi card was it?

Cheers.

Oh man, just noticed that fan on the card doesn't spin up when the computer is turned on. Must be dead.

That my easter ruined, the gf has gone away and I was looking forward to a few days of gaming with my new card :( :( :(

Perhaps try a different connection from the PSU. Might just be that that's dodgy. :o Fingers crossed!

Jantech 600w Arctic modular with support for SLI pci-e graphics. Should be able to run this card :(

Yeah it should. But TBH its a crap PSU

You have plugged the pci-e connector into the PSU haven't you?

And the one for SLI?

Just sits there doing nothing, doesnt even post. The fan has started spinning again now, although it doesn't spin up straight away. Tried a CMOS reset, no joy :(

Yes, my old card was an ATI (x800), does that make a difference?

There is one cable going from the PSU to the gfx card, thats all it should need isn't it? There is only one connector on the card....

Probably, but I would have thought the cards fan would still spin to show it's getting power. My thinking is that the ATi drivers are conflicting with the Nvidia card. However, I doubt that would stop it from at least running.

It's worth a shot possibly slapping the ATi card back in. Going into Windows, uninstall all ATi software/drivers. (Use DriverCleaner Pro in safe-mode as well). Then try with the new card.

Ive uninstalled all the ati drivers, but i dont think that is anything to do with it. The system won't even post with the 8800 in it. The fan spins up after a couple of seconds but the screen stays completly blank :(

Sounds like a dead card,

the ati drivers would not effect the post of the new card, they would only come into affect upon booting into windows.

Sorry to hear that dude, tis a royal pain, spesh with the missus away know what thats like!!

No decent gfx card and no gettin laid lol :D

You tried the DVI cable in the other output on the card mate.

Try resetting the BIOS this way...

- Unplug PSU power
- Remove Battery
- Set CMOS jumper to reset
- Leave for 60 seconds
- Set jumper back
- Put Battery back in
- Plug in PSU
- Switch on

Does wiggling the card in the slot help. May be sitting bad.

Yeah that's what I thought, worth a shot though. :) :o

Thanks for all the help guys, guy my weekend of gaming is going to have to be cancelled. So depressing, I've spashed out over £300 and it doesn't work, and what with easter and everything, its going to take a while to turn around :(

Do OcUK refund your postage costs if the item is faulty?

Firstly I would see if a friends PC can be used to try the card, if it doesnt work in there then its deffo RMA time.

I had a x800 gto that would lock up as soon as i installed drivers on my PC for it, but it worked flawlessly in any other PC.

At least you can narrow down the fault this way.
