Hi,

Received my new build today (config build). All fires up ok but I can't get the monitor to get a picture. I'm completely clueless with all of this so I apologise in advance. I tried calling the helpline but struggled with all the techie talk.

Everything powers up but the monitor doesn't seem to be receiving a signal. I've just plugged the standard cable in - as far as I'm aware everything is already installed on the PC. I've opened it up and everything looks pushed in.
Sorry don't know how to post a pic to show you in the insides.

Please help!

It might be running on the onboard HD3000 graphic, try plugging the cable onto the motherboard output instead.

check the monitor menus, and cycle through various inputs. What 'standard' cable is it? HDMI or DVI?

Maybe the resolution isnt supported through the gfx output and needs to be tweaked?

Will the monitor work on another computer?
Will the computer work with another monitor?

Does the back of your motherboard look like this:

If so, try both the HDMI (third column in, bottom connection) and DVI (fourth column in, bottom connection) connections (they'll only fit in one port).

What have you got plugged in at the moment, and in to what? Is it in to the above or in to your graphics card? i.e. that back of what I presume is this card:

If this is your card it supports DVI, HDMI and Display Port.

Back of motherboard does indeed look like that. HDMI cable is plugged in that. Can't get DVI cable into that connection as the adapter is incorrect. It does fit lower down though and I know have a picture but it's full of white lines. Is this correct?... does it just need configuring?

The DVI will go in the blue port but nothing happens, or will fit further down the PC in another port with the adapter. Can't fit it in the port suggested as the pins are slightly different on the adapter.

The blue port is VGA not DVI.

You really want to connect with DVI or HDMI and not to VGA or VGA with a DVI adapter.

Post a picture of the actual cables you have to connect to the monitor.

Right... well at the moment I'm using the cable supplied with the monitor and it's running from the DVI port on the graphics card (with an adapter to make it fit) into the RGB in slot in the back of the monitor as that's the only one it'll fit it... I'm guessing that this is where it's all going **** up?...

...and it's a brand new adapter... maybe just shoddy photography.
