Help new CPU over 100c

I recently got a new computer
And my CPU boots up with a 100c and climbing on Bios
Ive only have it running for a few seconds before i shut it down.

My Specs are:
Asus P5Q motherboard
Intel Q9550 processor
Geforce GTX 260
Powerbox 700 watts


Can any body help me?
ive only just got my new computer and this is more or less the first time ive booted it up.

id check the heatsink is on properley and the fan header plugged in

If the cooler uses pushpins make sure they are engaged fully (very, very common problem). It may also be the BIOS is misreporting the temperatures.
