Morning

I recently bought a new rig from OCUK.

E6600 - 2.4Ghz Intel
Intel Mobo (Intel DP965LT 965 (Socket 775))
1900xt connect3D
SATA2 drive
580Watt hiper PSU.
2GB GeiL - 667mhz (2x1GB)

Built the system up but it would not detect the hdd, presumably because i need to install drivers from setup cd to floppy drive and press f6 when booting windows?

Well when i came downstairs to find out about that whole process, went backupstairs and now the system wont turn on.

When i press the power button, the power LED switches ON, the psu starts, but the CPU fan/Graphics fan dont, they move like a CM. I then power it off by holding the button until the LED goes out. MOBO fan has a light on it even when not connected to mains.

I have tried reseating the LOT - same error.
Tried a different PSU from a working machine - does the same.
Tried unplugging various cdroms and fans but still same.

HELP - bought 2142 yesturday to celebrate it but its not working - feel really ****** :(

From intel Site -

"If you are using SDRAM or DDR-SDRAM, some motherboards require you to populate the memory sockets starting with the first socket. Refer to your motherboard documentation for more information. "

The MOBO documentation? What mobo documentation - i got given a load of picture crap.

Now, what i do know is this, PC was working, and it advised that to run faster, split the 2gb of RAM into the two seperate channels. So when i took the SATA2 drive out to examine jumper settings i put a stick into channel 2, could THAT be the problem? I am at work atm so i cant test...

Any additional guidance would be good as i dont entirely believe that that would be the problem especially as the MOBO flashed up and advised me to move the RAM.

maybe try one mem stick at a time?

If your mobo lights stays on after you unplug from the mains, i think it means you got residual current in there. Before you go pulling things out or putting stuff in, press your power switch with the PSU unplugged. This should clear any residual current, and the mobo LED should go out.

Have you made sure you've connected all the power cables? Or that none are loose. Checked your CPU is seated properly?

Does the mobo beep at all?

I dont get any beeps - Have tried with One Mem stick in.

Have not reseated the CPU because i dont have any thermal paste - as its new will this not matter, perhaps the paste is still intact on the heatsink/fan?

Yes. it worked, i then turned it off, returned and it no longer worked.

I have tried 2 psus which both do the same thing so that means its either RAM/Processor/Mobo. RAM i know worked as it worked when it booted the PC, cant really try any other ram as i dont have any. Tried a cmos reset.

Im going to reseat the cpu when my mate comes round with thermo paste.

Ill let you know how it goes.
