I haveq just finished building my pc and all the fans come on and LEDs and the monitor comes on but the it says " reboot and select proper boot device or insert boot media in a selected boot device and press a key" what's going on :-(

Thanks for any help.

what board is it? its delete key to enter the bios or else it will skip past it and try to boot hence the message due to no operating system installed yet?

It's a gigabyte d77 I think. I don't think it gives me chance. As soon as I turn it ok it goes to that screen. Is there supposed to be any screens before that message? I almost got into the bios once. Dunno what i did but it come up with gigabyte screen and had some options to configure boot sequence and stuff but my keyboard stopped working so I had to restart my pc and then I couldn't get back on :-(.

it does flash past it quick,if its saying install boot media then its gone past the bios

soon as you start pc just press delete repeatedly,it should go in the bios then, try your keyboard in other usb ports aswell

you can also press f12 at start up to bring up the boot menu, then pick what to boot from, dvd with windows disc or hdd ect

I frikin love you guys. You was right it was very fast but got it in the end. Installing windows now so thank you. i have a few more questions if that's ok. Firstly how do I install to a ssd card as when I'm trying to install windows it's asking me where I want to install windows but when I click load drive it can't find one?

Ok I have even changed my sata thing to ACHI but it still doesn't find it. Is there a certain sata port I must have the ssd in? Do I need to format it using another computer before I can install windows?

No, it should appear in the list of available drives. This might sound silly, but is there a power cable connected to the SSD as well as a SATA cable?

Also, does the drive show up in the BIOS?

Odd, it should definitely show up in the windows installation screen then. So it doesn't list any storage devices at all?

Fixed it. I had to do a lot of digging around the Internet but what I had to do was download a program called parted magic. Burn it to a cd. Boot from the cd and secure erase my ssd. Then I tried to install windows again and it was immediately recognised.

Corsair 128gb. I have a few more questions lol so bare with me. I just want to make sure I have set everything up correctly. With my grfx card hd 7850 the power connector that came with it had to 4 pin plugs. I have connected 2 power cables to this. One for each 4 pin connector. Is this right? Because on each power cable from my psu there is about 3 different plugs along the cable. And there is 2 4 pin connectors and a little small connector at the end of the cable. Was I supposed to use both of the 4 pin connectors on the one power cable or did I do it right using 2 separate power cables?

Ok thanks. I have another problem lol. I can't access the Internet. As the little wifi dongle I have I don't have the driver cd so I tried connecting my pc to the router via Ethernet but nothing happens and the led for the Ethernet pot doesn't light up. Is the Ethernet port somehow faulty or do I have to activate it in the boos or something. Ever other port works as far as I can tell.

Your posting here, so cant you go to mobo site and download your chipset drivers & transfer them over with a usb stick.

This ^^^

Download the chipset drivers for your motherboard from the manufacturer site and install them from USB.

What version of windows are you using?

I'm using windows 7. Do you think that is the problem then. I just need to download the drivers? How do I install the drivers once they are downloaded. Do I do it in the bios or from within windows?

Within Windows. Just download the drivers with the PC that has the internet connection, then place the files onto a pen drive. Then stick the drive into the new PC, and run the files and they'll install.
