Help noob OC E8500!!

But failing after 30 mins is no good so make sure it's stable. I'd try running small fft's to see if that fails first (or drop the cpu multiplier way down and run blend) to see for sure if it's the cpu that isn't stable.

I just meant that he isn't a far off stable if it passes 30 mins in. Another cpu colt notch after than would probs mean failure after 4 hours.

@n111ck
What prime test was it failing, blend, small or large FFT's

If small ffts then u may need abit more vcore, or north bridge volts.
If Blend then it could either be vcore, northbride or memory.

I've now reverted back to Auto for my memory timings and voltage and this seems to be more stable when running my memory at full speed.

However when running prime, blend and small FFTs run for ages (admittedly not for 24 hours) and yet large FFTs runs for just a few minutes.

So do i need a bit more Vcore or NB voltage??

Vcore is currently @ 1.35 and

NB is 1.38

Is there any way of finding out the voltages and timings of each the cpu, nb and memory when under stress test??

Only im thinking that if i have things set to auto and then i find out what the values should be, then i can use these settings as a start point to refine my overclock.

i have cpu-z which gives cpu voltage but it would be good to know nb and memory info too

Try dropping your cpu multiplier down to x7 and running prime. If it still fails you're looking at a memory or NB stability issue. If it's stable, try raising the Vcore a bit more. If it IS a memory/NB problem, try raising NB volts a little.

Well i think i have cracked it. Got a stable overclock details below @ 4GHz;

Vcore Voltage = 1.30
NB Voltage = 1.10
SB Voltage = 1.20
FSB = 424
Multiplier = 9.5

Temps:
Idle = 36 C
Prime Large FFT = 50 C
Intel Burn @ Maximum = 66 C

Just need to set the timings and RAM voltage (they are currently set to auto) and then all is complete. :)

I have pretty much the same setup as this guy apart from mobo P5QL and CPU E8200. I'm having a few issues with OCing too but only in the way that it just won't clock over 3.4 for some reason. Temp is low and I can up the Vcore to 1.5V but it just won't boot up on anything over 425x8 (3.4Ghz). Any clues? link to my thread below...

Gratz corky glad u finally sorted it, are those overall cpu temps, or core temps?

@Steve
Iv posted in ur thread, im no expert but have experience with these cpu's, so iv given u a rough stuff to go for, but i don't know ur mobo, so can't offer advice fully.
