OK, Just had my first go at o/cing my CPU. My spec is in my sig before I start

I seem to hit a barrier at stability on my X2 at ~2.27 GHz. This with the following settings

FSB = 227
Multi = x10
HTT = x4
Ram = 333 divider
Vcore = 1.41V (gone upto 1.51V but no difference in stability)
Vchipset = 1.8V

I am using the following progs

Speedfan
Prime Ortho
Clockgen <- using this to adjust the FSB

Just testing the FSB I can get it stable up to 250 when I run the multi at x8 and RAM at 333 – but not tested further.

When I put the multi to x10 and run with the FSB at 230 I then get a failure on one of the cores after about 2 mins of using Prime Ortho; upping the Vcore seems to make no difference to the stability.

I was hoping to get to 2.4, maybe 2.5 so I’m asking

1) am I doing this right (I have read Jokester FAQ and that’s why I know how far the FSB will go [atm anyway])
2) Any suggestions how I can squeeze a bit more out of this CPU

Or is it I just have a really bad clocker? :(

what temps you getting? X2's slightly notorious for running increadibly hot due to bad IHS contact, you may have an X2 with poor contact holding you back, in which case if you have the balls to do it, and a compatible H/S, you could remove the IHs to hopefully get a far better OC :] theres a guide to removing the IHS on the ocuk forums, i can paste the link if u cant find it

Temps are about 41/42C with 1.41V and upto 49 at 1.51V - nothing to spectacular from my mind anyway.

if those temps are accurate then its not a heat issue, if upping the vcore isnt giving you any extra OC then id say its not your cpu maxing out, rather its something other than the cpu, yet you say you got the fsb to 250 stable at a low multiplier which is confusing, some thinking time is required me thinks :]

don't clock using Clockgen - getit done in the BIOS.

Using windows based clocking apps are notoriously bad for instablilty.

Try the same settings in the bios and this should work better.

Well BIOS is looking good,

Currently at 2.4 stable at 1.49V - is this a good o/c for a 3800?, can;t find any obvious threads on this one.....

Might try and edge it upto 2.5 though I might need to bring in a better air cooler..... (Zalman 9700 or Ninja Sythe?)
