Help OCing my E6600- got 3.6 can i go higher?

Them screenshots show you at 2.55ghz not 3.8 (orthos will show 3.8 as it dosn't work with multi's - it just assumes its on the highest one iirc). Set the multi in the bios to 9 rather than AUTO to be sure. You might also want to consider stress testing with 'blend' which will test your whole system rather than just the cpu for stability once you have the cpu stable. This will stress cache, memory, cpu & memory controller.

You may also want to change the 'lady' to laddy' - that is unless you are a female of the species :D

Thanks for the advice W3bbo, and I am indeed the female of the species :D

EDIT: Hmmm thats weird could have sworn i set orthos off with a 9 multiplyer. Will test again tonight.

Ok, tested my ram for 20mins in memtest and got no errors at all.

I have done 25 odd mins of orthos at 3.8 and so far so good, gonna run orthos over night and see if its properly stable.

Here is a screenshot:

And the BIOS settings:

Vcore = 1.45 + 100mv
Memory Volts = 2.353
NB Volts = 1.563

FSB = 1700
Multiplyer = 9
Memory DDR = 800 (this is unlinked)
Memory Timings = 4,4,4,12
Memory CMD = auto

So would this overclock be ok to run 24/7 (only if it passes orthos of course) or would it be better to take it back to 3.6 which i can do on less volts?
Any idea why CPU-Z is reporting different speeds to Coretemp, and why both are reporting a x6 multi?

CPU-Z = 2.5Ghz (6x425)

Coretemp = 3.8Ghz (6x637)

Have you got 'speed step' enabled by any chance. :)

Damn, rare to see female pc enthusiasts tbh - sorry bout the assumption. Yeah make sure your multi is actually set to 9 rather than auto. It will go to 9 while under load but relax back to a 6 when idle if you leave it auto - problem is that it wont show as a 9 unless its actually set to a 9. a lot of frauds (which I know you aint) use this exploit to claim they are getting clocks they are not.

Well thats the thing I had it set at 9 in the BIOS. Getting a bit worried now lol as I am getting BSODs when doing the CPU test on Orthos. It also Failed the Blend test. Looks like I maybe going back to 3.6 :(

Thats your memory or memory controller. Nothing to worry about - its just not stable atm. As my old techer used to say 'Must try harder'. ;)

Yeah i get that the memory is struggeling but I am scratching my head on how to get it stable lol.

So far I have lowered the DDR down to 700 and that bsod'd after around 25mins on orthos cpu test. So I have now lowered the timings to 5,5,5,12.

I also have 2.353 volts going through it too, but i have one of those crucial fan things over the memory so hopefully its not getting hot. Is there a program to see the temperature of memory?

What else would you recommend?

You may have just hit the limit on the cpu - you can always try more vcore but tbh you are already entering the danger zone as far as vcore is concerned imo so with that your are taking chances with your hardware.

My advice is to back it down to 3.6ghz - get that stable first. You should be able to run your ram 1:1 (400mhz) with that at its rated timings of 4-4-4-12. Do a full orthos run on blend (12 hours). If it passes that then write down what settings you have for future reference. Then slowly increase the fsb unitl you start getting instability again.

Welll getting somewhere. Got 1hr in orthos on cpu test. All I did was lower the fsb very slightly to 1690 = 422.5 and that seemed to work. Gonna do the blend test now and then tonight i'll do it for a good 8+hrs. But tbh for 24/7 use im gonna run it at 3.6 as I dont really think i'll notice that .2 ghz in games.

Hi,

Ok I am overclocking the system in my sig. I have got it stable on 30mins of OCCT at 3.6ghz @ 1.47v on water.

BIOS settings for 3.6:

Vcore - 1.4 +100mv (no pencil mod done yet)
Memory Volts - 2.259v
NB Core - 1.563v

Mem Mhz is 400 (shows 800 in my bios)
FSB - 1600
Multi - 9

Temps - 25 idle 35 loaded
............................................................................................

Hi
if it was me i stick with that - 3600 mhz with 1.47Vcore
is more than enough for gaming or everything else you want to do with your pc :)

Note: Orthos blend is much more demanding than Small FFT´s,if it pass 10/12hours then you have a rock solid system

anyway ,your set of hardware is very good,great quality components ( but the board could be a P5B or Commando lol) great WC system :)

Wish my e6600 would do that.....

Mine gets hot enough at 1.375v @ 3GHz :(
Would put in better fans but I don't like noise :p

You going for 4GHz?

Wish I could get 4ghz but it was having issues at 425fsb thus why i lowered it slightly, and the temps are getting quite high underload now so I am happy with 3.8. Gonna run it at 3.6 though just to be on the safe side, just wanted to see if i could get the 3.8.
