Hi,

Last week I went ahead and purchased the Steamroller X99 MSI bundle that I planned to use for virtualisation and gaming, seemed like a good upgrade from the Phenom II I had previously.

Yesterday I installed the motherboard in place of my old MSI board and tried to boot... Nothing..

All I can get is the fans spin up for a split second, then there is a red light by the 24 pin ATX power cable. No beeps or codes.

Everything is connected firmly and correctly
I have tried with/without graphics installed
PSU has tested fine in another PC (650W 80+)
Reseated RAM sticks
Unplugging all peripherals, drives and unnecessary cables doesn't help either!

Any other ideas or should I be RMAing the new system?

Thanks in advanced!!
Dan

Just tried clearing the CMOS using the button on the rear I/O panel, the blue light flashed a couple of times but still no boot. Just taken the CMOS battery out for a bit now to see how it goes.

Try building the system outside of a case on a bit of cardboard etc.

and thats about all I can think off.

Also what exactly is the PSU you are using?

No joy outside of the case either :( Not looking good!

It's just one I got from Overclockers about 6 months ago, 650W and holds my AMD Phenom X4 955 BE @4Ghz just fine, I thought it would be ok with this until I could get a new Corsair one in a month or two.

The box my bundle was delivered in wasn't in a great condition to be honest, but the internal boxes all seemed fine.

Antec, not the top dog... but not the cheapest!

I am posting from my PC now!! .... I've put my AMD motherboard back in (same PSU) and its all fine on this.

Must be the motherboard or CPU surely? as a bundle id assume I can RMA the whole thing?

if you look on the asus site there is a biso update out for "Improve compatibility".

Back to the PSU was there not a thing with the newer intell 1150 CPU's not booting with some PSU's, this could also be the problem

Taken from the manual that you cant have bothered reading because it was on the first few pages.
The little LED it the MEM OK Led. and it flash's when the memory is not compatible out of the box.

MemOK! button
Installing DIMMs that are not compatible with the motherboard may cause system
boot failure, and the DRAM_LED near the MemOK! button lights continuously. Press
and hold the MemOK! button until the DRAM_LED starts blinking to begin automatic
memory compatibility tuning for successful boot

Press and hold the memok button (Top right of motherboard), power on your system, only let go of the memok button when the system boots.
your best off doing this with only one stick of ram and use slot one

Cheers for the info!

I have read through the manual but didn't see that! what page are you looking on? (and are we on the same manual? http://www.msi.com/support/mb/X99S-SLI-PLUS.html#down-manual)

I also cant find the button... but that could be my own fault, if I can find it in the manual I should be able to get it on the board!

Ok I still haven't found the MemOK! button on my board, but I have tested another PSU to be 100% sure there is no issues with the other one.

Tested with a known-working BeQuiet PurePower 530W, outside of a case, same issue... so there's one thing totally ruled out!

I will contact Overclockers again on Monday to see if they have any more ideas or RMA the box.
