Help - Oculus link on old graphics hardware... possible?

@MoNkeE
Hmm is it that easy? You know, when I fiddled around with ALVR I encountered similar problems with the video Stream encoding so I never bothered to look for another 3rd-party solution. And you are absolutely right about spending 300 for a used and already out of date card, especially when a r9 200 series was considered very VR-ready back in the days. Of course newer hardware is better hardware but I really dig the Virtual Desktop idea.

So thank you a ton, I will test it especially under the aspect, if the image resolution is comparable or higher than the tweaked 1600 possible via Link. It may turn out to be even better, as my 5gh router is close to the living room with enough space while my workstation with LAN cable is busily humming in my work room, with not as much free space.

have a great x-mas with your family

Hey Marius,

Only reading your posts now. But there are a couple of things you can try that work better than ALVR and Oculus Link(airlink or Cable link)

The reason Oculus link doesn't work so well with AMD cards, especially older cards is that they have really bad encoders. Virtual Desktop is a great option because it allows you to select between two different codecs and it has settings for lower end computers like yours. It costs €20 though. But, you should be able to try it out and then refund it if it doesn't work out for you.

Another option to try is from AMD themselves, It's called AMD Relive. Just google how to set it up. It's worth trying because it's free.

Good luck. :)

after you have done the above with drivers etc, before you go into the Oculus Debug, there is a slider for the resolution and freq in the main Oculus Desktop app, turn the resolution down and the frequency to 72hz to start with and see how that goes first, as that would be an easier way.
as also said above, probably worth trying Virtual Desktop!
