HELP ON CPU CHOICE

smids said:
All graphics drivers by both ATi and nVidia are now multithreaded. There was a review done on the drivers when they were released in Nov? '05 and it showed massive gains in performance. These are not seen in single core CPU's and I would think this means about 15% better performance clock for clock against a single core. Also, games like CoD2 have a multithread patch which works great on my computer as do all games.

Thing is, no reviews really do comparisons of drivers, ive seen a few, but wenever they compare dual core to single core its just one driver, with no extra patches for the game or anything...

i mean i could buy an X2 3800+ and clock it, but after hearing its comarable to a single core 3200/3300 im like...what the hell? And then seeing benchmarks proving that just rubs it in for something thats nearly double the priice :P

Ah but once you receive your year 06 CPU and clock it to dual 3ghz, then you'll be thinking .

Well....that depends if i want to risk frying £200 or not really doesent it :)

Guess im thinking back too far to like the Athlon xp days lol :P
Yeah clocking is pretty easy nowadays and you cannot fry it unless you adjust volts or don't attach the HSF properly. Changing the frequency does not damage it, heat and volts do.

Yea, id just like the X2 4400's to drop in price :( And then maybe clock that to 2.5 if i feel its not that fast...Agh i dunooo, its all money, Do you think the X2's will drop at all any time soon? Im just getting jitty cause ive got an x1900 sitting here doing nout :P
One thing that worries me is i heard that the X2's may in fact be going UP in cost by a bit...which is annoying..
