I want to consider what upgrades I can fit to my machine so I can try some current generation games, such as Red Dead Redemption etc (mid settings).

I don't have a great budget and hope to get away with just changing the GPU - and if so what else would fit.

Specs are:

GTX 670 3X 2048MB GDDR5 PCI
i5-3570K 3.40GHz
Gigabyte Z77-D3H Intel Z77
OCZ ZT 650W '80 Plus Bronze'
8GB
BitFenix Shinobi "Core" USB3.0 Gaming Windowed Case

Any advice would be very much appreciated.

Thanks

What do you mean by a great budget. What resolution do you game at ?
Something like a RX 580 or GTX 1660 Super.

Hi - maybe around £250, and working on 1920 x 1080.
Had thought about a 1660 as others had suggested, would rather stay with Nvidea.

Would my CPU be a bottleneck with this and would my PCU be sufficient ?

Thanks again.

3570k might bottleneck, the older quad cores are quite dated now and starting to show their age. My brothers was constantly 100% in COD:MW. His only fix was to upgrade to an i7.

You could go with a 1660 Super. as they're great for 1080p.

Alternativley, push your budget to £350 and get new CPU, motherboard & RAM

I am in similar situation... dont know what to do...
The trouble I have is unlike when I brought my machine 7 year ago I now have little time to tinker with PC upgrading, and I was never that good at it anyway.
It seems to be more future proofed I need to change my MB and CPU, but I am a bit nervous of going through all of this.

So I am more likely to just update my GPU to the GTX 1660 SUPER as suggested, but can see overall performance might be squeezed by my now under powered i5-3570K 3.40GHz.

I am trying to look for some guides as to what improvement I will see over over my GTX 670 using the new GTX 1660, but changing nothing else.

UPDATE:
Think I found my comparison:

Buy the 1660 Super (make sure its the Super one)

Overclock the 3570k it will give you more headroom

See how you go. Might be surprised.

Just change the multiplier of the CPU to x40 (from x34) in the bios dont touch anything else and it should give you a nice boost to 4ghz. Most CPU's will happily take this without changing anything else.

I would recommend saving up until you can get a new motherboard then get a Ryzen 5 2600, or something like that, get a 1050 TI second hand? As theyre quite cheap now and can still keep up with todays games with the right processor.

I had a similar setup with an i5-3570K and an nVidia GTX 970 was a good match at a time. When I upgraded to a GTX 980 Ti the i5 started to struggle a bit so I then upgraded to an i7 5820K and that has been fine right up to a 1080 Ti.

So as suggested a 2nd hand RX 480/580 or GTX 1060 would be a good upgrade without spending too much on the GPU.
