I have setup Smp fah in a vm'd linux, and its doing something :) is there any apps that will give a running commentary on what fah is doing? or is it console window stats only :(

The guide I got for Vmware was cool it helps to set up Ubuntu 64bit

Linky all the necessary softwares are linked in this guide.

Ubuntu 64 the iso is hosted on a Virgin media server very fast download at least today it was before 2pm :)

From within Ubuntu, download the FahMon sources from here and unzip them to your Home folder. Then follow these instructions for compiling it.

Or you can access you stats from within Windows by downloading and unpacking the FahMon.zip package, and then going into Ubuntu and right-clicking the foldingathome folder and selecting 'Share folder'. Then select 'Share through Windows Networks (SMB)' and download the necessary files.

After that's finished, open a terminal and type
sudo smbpasswd -a "your username"

Enter your Ubuntu password 3 times, shut down Ubuntu and restart Windows.

Once that's done and you've restarted Ubuntu, you should be able to access your foldingathome folder through Windows FahMon. It can take a good few seconds for FahMon to find the foldingathome folder, but it will do.

The second way is usually the best way, simply because you can close the VMWare window and let it run in the background, and then check that everything's running smoothly by using FahMons System Tray icon in Windows.

Cool :) going to try the network workaround first I think its the hardest....lol :)

Some frame times on WU 2605 these appear to be a lot faster than my win xp times :) so far.

Am I able to monitor other pc's on my network like this?
Seems the ubuntu folder (no pun intended) is only viewable from network places on local machine?

Cheers

I've no idea. But I'm sure someone with a lot more knowledge than me has tried it.

When adding a new client in FahMon you can either browse to the shared folder or enter \\computername\sharename in the location box.

You can do this for any pc on the network as long as you have shared the f@h folder.

This worked perfectly on the VMware host PC but the share can't be seen from another PC on the LAN. I'm sure this is down to the network setup within VMware as pinging the Linux VM from the host gives an IP address in a different subnet from my LAN. Anyone know if it's possible to change this without creating a new VM?
