hi there,i'm in need of an upgrade as i've just ordered bioshock but not sure on which route to take.I really don't want to shell out a fortune unless it's really justified.

My spec is in my sig below and i can't decide if to just upgrage graphics, cpu and maybe memory or to ditch the lot and go core2duo.Is it worth buying an extra gig of ddr for my current set-up as it seems pricey compared to ddr2.

Any help much appreciated as not sure if even my psu is gonna need changing as well.

Also i do have a arctic freezer pro fitted but when i tried to overclock my current cpu it didn't seem stable after 2400mhz but not sure why as i'm a bit unsure how to overclock.

Whats the maximum amount of money you have to play with ? I think it may be time for you to have a major re-build im afraid :(

I'd be happy to spend what's required really, but i don't like to spend on the overpriced new stuff that will lose half it's value in 6 months if u get what i'm saying.

I'd be happy to spend say £300.I just don't want to spend say £300 to find crytec struggles in a few months time.

how about this for a quick fix to get me going:-

OcUK ATI Radeon X1950 Pro 256MB =£72.84

AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core 4200+ (Socket 939)=£64.61

GeIL 2GB (2x1GB) PC3200 Value Dual Channel Kit CAS3=£93.99

£231.44

I'd probably buy some aego m 2.1 speakers as i've got 5 year old creative 5.1 speakers which are a bit pants so total sum is :-

£310.15

I see what your saying, that's why i'd like advice on maybe spending on a core2duo system,i'm just not sure on the clock speed versus fsb options to go for.

Intel Core 2 Duo E2160 "LGA775 Conroe" 1.80GHz (800FSB)=£56.39

OcUK ATI Radeon X1950 Pro 256MB =£72.84

Crucial 2GB (2x1GB) DDR2 PC2-4200C4 Dual Channel Kit=£56.39 or Crucial Ballistix 2GB (2x1GB) DDR2 PC2-5300C3 667MHz

=£185.62(or £10 more for 5300 memory)+MOBO and cooler???

Is my antec 430w psu ok as well???

psu should be ok just check to see if you can find out the ampage for the 12v lines, recommended for the 1950 is 28a approx.

deffo the ballistix 5300 memory, still appears to be clocking well.

motherboard have a look at the Abit IP35-E (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR2 Motherboard (£71) and the Tuniq Tower 120 CPU Cooler (£32) might need to check the cooler size to ensure it will fit in you're case.

Can anyone better this on value versus performance

Asus P5K Intel P35 (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR2 Motherboard=£79.89

Intel Core 2 Duo E2160 "LGA775 Conroe" 1.80GHz (800FSB) - Retail=£56.39

PowerColor ATI Radeon X1950 Pro AC Heatpipe 256MB GDDR3 VIVO TV-Out/Dual DVI=£96.34

Crucial Ballistix 2GB (2x1GB) DDR2 PC2-5300C3 667MHz Dual Channel Kit=£66.96

TOTAL £299.58

Not sure if i need anything else,is my 430 antec psu up to powering this set up???

dont think you'll get much better than that tbh.

as for u're psu just make sure you're voltage rails are stable, the 12v ampage is ok for the 1950 and u should be fine.
