Help on which Smartphone please.

Thanks very much for everyone's input.
I have another think about things and given that this is my first smartphone, I think I am going to take the cheapy option and go with one of the Orange budget phones - I can always upgrade to a much better phone in the future.

My question now is whether the Monte Carlo is worth going for over the San Francisco II - is there a possibility that the latter might now be unlockable?

Bulb66 - what does rooting and flashing a new ROM involve? How easy is it, what does it involve and what are the benefits?

Also, how easy is it to unlock this phone?

As per the above, so you are saying that if I upgrade the phone as you have done, I can then just install flash player like the more expensive phones?

Thanks again

As a heads up, I won a brand new Galaxy S2 off eBay for £320. I was planning to get it second hand for around £300, but this seemed too much of a good deal. (have not received it yet though.)

Smart phone without flash support seems pointless to me as well. I am looking to get one soon and I'd want it to do everything with no limitations. I am seeing Samsung Galaxy and HTC Desire are the main competitors still?

Adobe are stopping development on Flash support for mobile device, it'll still be available but no longer updated (not sure when or if it's finalised).

Also, most websites are starting to use HTML5 which a lot of devices now use, including, I think, Apple & WP7.5.

Last time I checked, The rainforest shop was selling the HTC sensation for £299. Worth it if you can afford it. It will also get the Ice Cream sandwich 4.0 android update.

Edit: I understand that you are going for a cheaper phone that what I have stated above but I think to experience android without pulling out your hair, my recommendation stands. For 3x the cost you get a much better phone that is likely to last longer into the future.
