I really need some help here guys, I am at the end of my tether with this.

I took off the Heatsink to re apply some thermal grease as it seemed to be running a liitle warm (not hot by any means around 52) & when I replaced everything the machine would not boot yet I could get into the Bios etc, I did a fresh install & everything went fine until I checked in the "Task Manager" there to my suprise it was only showing 1 core & not 2, I took the CPU back as I thought it was faulty, it was changed for me no problem, I then put the new CPU in & rebooted with still the same problem showing, I did a fresh install with the new cpu yet again but it is still only showing 1 core, core temp is not picking up the other core either.

Has anyone got any Ideas as I have just about had enough of this now. :(

Thanks.

Any chance you could upload some pics of Coretemp?

When you reapplied the thermal paste did you clean the old paste of the CPU and Heat sink first?

Yes I re-applied thermal grease & cleaned it all off both CPU & Heatsink, I am sorry I cant upload any pics at the moment as I have it in pieces trying to find out what is wrong but it simply shows Core 0 temps etc but Core 1 is just blank, the boxes are there but just empty.

Thanks for the replies guys,

I have just checked about the settings in task manager & I have loaded Vista at the moment & it is in one graph per cpu yet it is greyed out too.

I have reset the Bios with no result, & yes only 1 graph in the System performance, I am starting to think is must be the motherboard or the only other thing i can think of is that the PSU is not supplying enough power to use both cores.

What should the Default VCore be????????

Device manager -> Computer -> [Right click] ACPI Uniprocessor CPU -> Update Driver -> Not this time (Next) -> Install from a specific location (Next) -> Don't search (Next) -> ACPI Multiprocessor CPU -> Next

Thanks I looked into that but the only option I have is "ACPI uniprocesser"

Strange, is that when you're looking at the 'Don't search I will choose which driver to install' part? Does it give any more options when you uncheck the 'show compatible hardware' checkbox?

I have the same mobo, what does it say in the bios menu under system information on the first main screen?

Edit/ can you take a pic?

Version 1202
Build date 03/28/07

Processer
Intel (R) Core (TM) 2 CPU 6600 @2.40GHz
Speed 2401MHz
Count 2

System Memory
Available 2048

So in effect the Bios is recognizing the chips fine, its when in windows whichever version does not see the second CPU or use it.

Just going to load xp pro now & see if the multiprocesser option is there.

Seems all okay then if the bios is recognising 2 cores, strange one, Vista XP etc should all see the 2 cores, can you post a screenshot of coretemp and the task manager??

Well guy's

Ireally don't believe this but on the 6th attempt of loading up various versions of windows this time it is showing two graphs in windows task manager, what I have done I do not know but if things change I will post on here.

Thanks for your help everyone
