hey all, i recently purchased my first 'proper' pc from ocuk, this one to be specific: http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=FS-132-OE

and, as one of the added options i selected said solid state hard drive: http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=HD-047-OC

now i am not experienced nor am i particularly knowledgeable but by my understanding a solid state hard drive is simply something speeds up the pc and makes everything run/load faster etc etc. is that about right?

also when i booted up for the first time i installed my copy of windows 7 on the the hard drive which has something like 900gb of space, rather than the 60 gb one. i am starting to think this was a little premature though, as surely by installing on this hard drive i won't get any of the benefits of the solid state hard drive; is that right?

so my best bet now is to uninstall my os and then reinstall it on the 60gb drive? and finally, does this mean i need two operating systems to use both hard drives? and is it possible to install games on the larger hard drive and play them on the solid state hard drive?

any advice is much appreciated. please forgive the ignorance. :)

Yeah it needs to be installed on the small drive. SSD (Solid State Drive) is essentially a hard drive which runs a lot faster than traditional mechanical ones so to see any benefit Windows needs to be on that one.

You only need to install Windows on that one, the other drive should be left blank for storage.

Oh and games should be installed on the small SSD too.

EDIT: You can store all your photos/music/videos on the big hard drive to save space on the smaller one. Same with the Steam folder if you use that for gaming.

thanks mate. shouldn't need any more than 60 gb for current games, movies i guess. but is it easy enough to just transfer files across then, i mean just click drag through 'my computer'? and say for updating an itunes library is it perhaps possible to sync itunes so it locates the storage as the older hard drive?

oh and is this model as good as all the reviews say? : http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=HD-047-OC

Yes that is a very good hard drive. To move stuff to a different hard drive simply click cut/copy and click paste on wherever you want to move it to, simples. You can set Itunes to store and sync music from any folder/hard drive you want, through the settings on Itunes.

If you get stuck with anything you can always ask on here or Google. There are plenty of tutorials on Youtube too.
