hey ive been wanting to overclock my 3570k for a long time now but a few questions. I have two sticks of 8gb ddr3 ram which are!

Kingston Technology ValueRam DDR3 1600 MHz 8GB
Kingston Technology KVR1333D3N9/8G 8GB DDR3 1333MHz

both are different frequencies is this going to effect my overclock or will the ram both run at the lowest frequency? in the past when I have tried to overclock the cpu the pc boots up but never gets to boot windows so could you use a bit of advise on overclocking as well thanks.

What overclock did you attempt?

My 3570k runs at 4.6ghz simply by changing the multiplier to 46 and vcore to 1.275v. You could try that as a base point and if it fails put up the vcore in 0.005 increments. If it works first time try reducing it.

I believe 4.5ghz I'm on the asus maximus v gene motherboard and ROG has a guide to overclocking a 3570k on it and that's what I tried which didn't work. oh forget to say my heatsink is a Raijintek Themis Black Heatpipe CPU Cooler

What vcore did you use for 4.5? Was it stable? Are the temperatures ok? Did you adjust any other settings like speedstep or vdroop?

I would attempt to set that 1333mhz stick of memory to run at 1600mhz like the other but it wouldn't be a problem to have them run as they are.

ok as I speak I tried what you just said but on 4.5 wont boot to windows resets so tried 4.4 same result so tried 4.0 on 1.275v and its loaded up ok? what should I do now

I would get a program to monitor temps as that processor would do 4.4 no problem at all. You may also need to update the motherboard bios as that can help stabilise the overclock. You shouldn't really need any more than 1.3vcore to achieve 4.4/4.6.

Also run something like prime or 3dmarkto test the temps at load but if your only in the 30s at idle it should be fine.

I would just overclock the 1333 ram to run at 1600 and run them both at that.

First switch your CPU core voltage to manual while your testing your overclocks, dont leave it on auto or it will raise the voltage itself, sometimes too much. Then set your CPU core multi to about 40 to start, test it for stabilty, and then continue to raise it 1 at a time untill it becomes unstable. Once its unstable just raid your core voltage i normally do it .01v at a time. Just continue to raise the multi and voltage until you hit your coolings limit which is about 80 degrees under full load on air. Once youve decided on your max overclock just go back and change your core voltage setting to allow an offset, and work out how much you need, for example my cpu runs at 1.2v on stock voltage, and i need 1.35v for my overclock so i set a +0.15 offset.

Theres loads of guides out there if ya want a little less slap dash way of going about it though. :)

That's a start :) . Still recommend checking your bios version compared to the latest as can make a wonderful difference.

I upgraded my bios a while back to the latest version. sorry to ask again but what should I use to tests temperatures under load ? what would be too hot? and can I damage my cpu at all sorry I'm a noob with all this

Id try and keep it under 90c but it will just throttle and crash if it gets too hot. Its the vcore that can damage the CPU but so long as you can keep it cool your ok up to 1.4v but I recommend 1.35 as safe zone. You could try prime95 or just loop 3dmark a few times.

I had mine at 4.5ghz @ 1.33v for the last 5 months stable under Win 8.1. Upgrade to Win 10 and I've had to return it to stock for now as it was blue screening. :o
