I have a P5Q Pro and a E8400

I was wondering what is the best way to overclock this and see how much i can get out of it.

Ive been out of the loop for a long time so need some help with this.

Any advice would be greatly apreciated!

Just start by increasing the FSB - you should get to 3.6ish before you need to start playing with voltages. Then go read the guides and (the one on clunk's forums is good) learn as you go!

I think you can overclock upto 3.5ghz without any extra cooler...

If you buy cpu cooler(e.g. thermalright ultra extream 120)
you will be able to overclock 3.8 or higher

However you need to put extra north chipset cooler if you want to overclock upto 4.5 or higher

Finnally got this overclocked!

I simply changed the FSB from 333 to 400 is this ok and is it safe?

Gave me an overclock of 3.6ghz

I do not know how far your Mobo can do on the FSB, I know more about the E or Deluxe models.

I'm at 4GHZ 2000 QP (500) 24/7 but I do have luxury of a 10x Multi if needed.

As to cooling, if its a E0 stepping, cooling ain't an issue at 4GHZ, I run it with only 1.060v and its passive at 4GHZ (I have fan at 0 RPM on a Noctua cooler)

I have an e8400 and a p5q pro and can hit 4.1ghz with 1.25V stable.

Temps at load are around 60 degrees with a xigmatek cooler.

Run it at 3.6ghz at 1.1V for 24/7 use though this is all on the old C0 stepping so if yours is an E0 then you can probably expect a lot better results than me :)

I can hit 3.9 at the stock 1.23v but then I lose my nerve and give it 1.32 (which has taken me to 4.5ghz totally stable, no northbridge increase just loosened ram, but the temps with my case enclosed in a cupboard are getting a bit much then),
Asus P5Q-VM /E8400

Someone somewhere has got to be getting near 5ghz on 1.4v and good air I'd have thought.

Right i just put the FSB at 445 and kept stock voltage and it runs at 4ghz an absolute treat!!! Had it on prime 95 for the last 35mins and its flicking between 62 and 63 degrees.

Running my computer with this setup is definately safe and its not damaging anything?

Thats not always right,Not every CPU will clock that high regardless of what CPU it is,wether you've got a stock or custom cooler.

It should be fine though I found with my p5q pro was that the auto setting for voltage meant that it changed in respect to the fsb and it would normally put more volts through the cpu than necessary, making it run hotter.

Download this http://www.cpuid.com/cpuz.php and see what the actual cpu voltage is and you could probably reduce the volts a bit or even oc it further. ;)
