Help overcoming a fear

Irrational fears are best conquered by simply exposing yourself to the thing you fear.

If you just keep at it eventually you will just work past it as has already been said.

I used to have a fear of heights until I started installing a city wide wireless network and ended up working on the roofs of high rise buildings frequently.

After about 6 months of doing this daily I was working away on the roof of a building installing an antenna on the side of the lift block. I did not realise just how little room there actually was on this roof until I looked back and it occurred to me that I was working on a roof, 22 floors up, 4 feet up a ladder 3 feet from the edge.

I could not work from on top of the block because there was a cell set-up there and you are not allowed to enter the perimeter with it active.

If I had fallen back I would not have even touched the roof it would have been non stop straight to the ground.

When I realised that and it did not freak me out that's when I realised I was past the fear.

The company you work for needs to have a serious health and saftey review that is a lawsuit that could bankrupt a small country just waiting to happen!

I like the suggestions about getting fitter and stronger, so that I will feel able to run / fight anything I need to. I think that's what I'm going to do.

Also, don't get a weapon - it could only get you into trouble. Get something like one of those large, heavy torches. It'd be useful and reassuring.

Just man up. There's nothing there that can hurt you...

Probably...

lol I was self employed.

It was my mistake and like I said I did not even realise until I was half way through the job.

First thing I would do is carry a big-ass hyper-bright LED flashlight! Blast the darkness away with that thing. And being LED will go a long long time. Dont get those weeny ones get a big hefty one...those rugged outdoorsy types.

An LED torch doesn't have to be big and rugged to be as bright as the sun :p It can be marker pen sized!

Unless you mean to get a big one as it acts as a baton as well in case you want to thwart a ghost to the chops?

Scary ? that is not scary ... scary is having ten pints and a vindarloo and coming home and there is no toilet paper in the house that's scary.
