Hi all, hope someone can help, my M8 is stuck on the red triangle screen when rebooting, the only screen I can access is the blue text android system recovery screen, with some yellow text at the bottom saying 'no cw files. skip cw instalation'

The phone is not recognised when plugged into my PC (I get the USB device connected sound) but cannot see the phone or seem to run any fastboot or ADP commands. I guess USB debug is disabled but I cant get into the phone to enable it.

This happened after rebooting following a firmware update (file specified in below pic).
I previously updated my phone to GPE lollipop 5.0.1, from stock sense and am trying to get back to sense, so this was part of the process to install viper rom which is sense based. Phone was S-OFF but no root when I started trying to go from GPE to viper rom.

Any ideas, I seem to have the option to apply from SD card, but cant run any command from PC, i.e apply TWRP recovery.

Sounds similar to issues I had with my M7 and custom ROM's, I could access fastboot/bootloader but couldn't get access to the recovery. Can you get to the bootloader/fastboot mode?

Volume down + Power should get you there. You should then be able to run the following command with ADB:

fastboot erase cache

As above, since you are S-OFF and if you have access to fastboot, then you can recover from this.

Do the command aboe and see if that works, if not try flashing recovery again and then try accessing it.

Another method if erasing cache doesn't work and you don't mind losing everything on the phone, you can flash this to completely return to stock Sense (using the zip file): http://forum.xda-developers.com/htc-one-m8/general/htc-one-m8-european-signed-ruu-0p6bimg-t2911563

Bare in mind if your phone has a carrier CID then change it to HTC__001 for this method to work.

I did something similar when I messed around my M7 a tad too much...

I can't seem to, but selecting 'apply from phone storage' or 'apply from SD card' revealed a 2nd screen, this seems to suggest I could load up what I need via SD card, this is all I have access to atm;

I'm guessing im gonna have to put TWRP on via SD card, then look at putting a rom on?

Actually, just reread the commands you just did.

Power off the phone, and wait for a few seconds. Hold power and vol down until you see a white screen with options for fastboot, recovery, etc. as well as the big "UNLOCKED" title on top. Select fastboot and then connect the phone to your PC. Open up CMD and then do the following command:

Code:
fastboot devices

Does anything come up there? You did the ADB version but that only works when the phone is booted into the OS.

Thanks, I can't seem to power the phone off, just reboot via vol+ and power button, pressing the power button to try and power off doesn't seem to do anything at all.

On reboot it goes straight to the black screen/red triangle screen, but I can access the screenshots above by pressing vol+ power :(

Thanks again

EDIT I don't mind loosing everything on the phone, I have a feeling it's already gone by this stage anyway

Try holding Volume Down and power while the phone is on, that usually forces it to reboot into bootloader/fastboot mode.

Thanks for the reply, I was basically following this video, yes I believe I flashed the firmware via fastboot.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CCGj0rOuiR4

I ran the below commands (ignore the file paths as that's from the video tutorial)

This command was successful on 2nd attempt
so I then did this command which should have rebooted to the white stock recovery

That's when it rebooted to the red triangle screen after the HTC splash screen, and all I can acces from that is the black screen blue text 'android recovery ' screen.

Thanks again, I'll have a look at the link, see if I can glean anything from it

Jesus H Christ.

Orcvader you are a legend, I found THIS in the your link:

"Press and hold power and volume up until phone shuts off. Let go of power and volume up then hold volume down until bootloader comes up -_- "

Sutch bleeding silly combinations of vol+-/power AT CERTAIN TIMES???

I now have a nice white shiny proper bootloader screen!

Thanks you!!!

I almost had a heart attack there :D

I now have unlocked s-off bootloader so hopefully will be ok from here.. watch this space lol

No problem, glad you managed to get back into bootloader, now it should be smooth sailing back to stock :). It does seem a bit odd for the M8 to have such odd button combinations at certain times, the M7 is much simpler...

Well I may have spoken too soon, but I'm not quite so worried now I have bootloader access.

My PC recognises the M8, I've flashed twrp which seems successful from the screenshot below, but the phone has now taken to freezing when on white screen 'entering recovery....'
I still cant run simple commands like 'adb devices' thou (also in screenshot.)

What a faf! lol!

I've now run an older version of twrp and I can run adp command now, but still stuck on entering recovery window on the phone, sorry for the questions this is more so I can remember what the hell I've done more than anything.

Think I'm sorted now, after further faffing-I had to systematically flash progressively older versions of TWRP until one of them stuck, I now have a nice teamWin console!

Argh, still issues, flashed viper 4.3.1 'successfuly' via twrp , goes though all the motions, selecting custom apps and stuff, reboots, then just a blank white HTC dev build screen for over 15 mins :silly:

Any ideas?

EDIT
Never mind, it just took freaking ages, about 20 mins, pulled out usb cable, rebooted and now im in proper android OS set up, gmail account etc.

Normally broken wifi is due to installing a kernel without the compiled wifi module, but you didn't mention a separate kernel.

Could try flashing another kernel/
