Hi all, been along time since i was here...

I have problems, Not always been an issue...

I can use my PC with no problem for days, leave it on downloading whilst im away with work, i come back to all things good, i can be gaming all night with no problems BUT now and again my PC takes a poo on the desk and rubs it in (now thats bad!)

PROBLEM,
it seems when i go from desktop into a game (Alt Tab) the game hangs, my sound stutters and then i get a screen full of Pink and Green fuzzy lines, If i stand back i can still just about see the outline of game behind it. i have no other option but to hit the reset button.

I dissabled SLi and it seems to be a bit better, but thats not good, both cards work on thier own, i changed the Sli bridge etc.

It crashed so much more on far cry 2.

SPECS.
QX6800
Stiker 1
4gb OCZ Flex 1300
pair of 8800GTXs
CRTV X-fi
4 500gb wds
a 36gb raptor
BeQuiet 1200 watt PSU (added on xmas day)
CPU and Both GFX water cooled.

I have tried many diff drivers etc.

TEMPS:
CPU - 39 - 42 is the norm, under heavy load for an hour or two 49 - 53 C
GPU - GPU1 now = 44 GPU2 = 42 in game - not raise more than 68 in an hour of CoD4

What ever the MCP is - that is reading 100 CELCIUS (from Ntune) if i stuff my temp probe in my Chipset heatpipe i read about 70C at times.

Voltages. (speed fan)
Vcore1: 1.26v
Vcore: 3.30v
+3.3v: 0.00v
+5V: 4.97v
+12V: 11.58

-12: -16.97v
-5: -8.78v
+5: 5.05v
vbat: 2.98v
Vcore: 0.00v
+3.3v: 3.27v

Sorry for Double post...
A buddy of mine is having a similar issue with his AMD RIG with a single 9800.

That is your northbridge and that is way too high i think. Did your 780i come with a northbridge fan at all? that could be your problem.

i have read stories of people on the evga forums, who have removed the heatsink from their 680i and found a lump of goo instead of a nice even layer of thermal compound and as such does not reduce heat well

Speedfan sometimes can't find the sensor, so gives a ridiculously high reading. Maybe something similar is happening?

this is not done from speedfan, i got the reading from NTune, Everest and my a physical temp reader tihingie (thermo.)

The point of this thread, can anyone help with the PC Crashing? i dont think its related to the MCP

I have to agree the northbridge is way too high temperature wise. I would remove the heatsink carefully clean the die, apply artic silver or equivalent and re-seat northbridge heatsink assembly.
This component is the core of your system. As it 'bridges' from the 64bit CPU BUS to the PCIe BUS, RAM and PCI. So if it's overheating after a period of time it can cause all sorts of errors, yours seems to be loss of comms with the VGA adapter.

do i have to take the striker out to release the heat pipes (im sure i do, the plastic lugs on the underside of the board)
