everything was hunky dory last night

so i got up today and switched on and it hung at the bios splash screen

i could get into the bios so i set it to fail safe defaults but it still didnt load vista
it just came to a screen that said there was a keyboard error so i couldnt get into the bios
so i rebooted a couple of times and now it says the cpu has been changed or replaced and to refer to the cpu soft screen in the bios

i have a q6600, abit ip35, 2gb ram

the cpu had been running about 65c-70c sometimes upto 80c because it was bunged up with dust till i cleaned it last week,it had been like that for a couple of months

what do you guys think is it the motherboard or do you think there is something else wrong

its only just over 12 months old :(

oh right ok then, sometimes USB keyboards don't work in BIOS (on some motherboards USB keyboard support needs to be enabled)

if you can dig out the ps2 keyboard and give that a go

if that doesnt work clear the CMOS using the jumper/removing the battery.

I would say at those temps there's a chance that your CPU's fried. but it's worth trying everything else.

you could also try reseating the CPU and seeing if that makes a difference.
