Morning All,

I recently had a cpu fail on me so after getting a new one and installing it into my system on Thursday (all working fine), I decided to have an early morning crack at overclocking it today.

Booted up the pc as normal, however the pc decided to freeze. The only way of shutting it down was a hard reboot.

The thing now won't even switch on.

There is power to the motherboard (Abit IP35) as I can see the red light & 01 on the LCD, however the pc just wont switch on when i press the case power button or even the power button on the motherboard.

What could have happened?!

Cheers

Graham

Tested the psu using the paperclip method. HDD's, Bluray Drive etc boot up

Wonder if something has shorted on the motherboard??

You sure the cpu failed? It's very rare for a cpu to just give up the ghost.

I'd start by clearing the bios, unplug from mains and remove battery for a minute.

Reseat your memory and check all power connections. You should also try shorting the power on/off pins on the mainboard with a screwdriver, just to take the front panel power switch out of the equation.

This ^^^^^!
Plus, I'd try re-seating the CPU cooler. If it isn't seated properly and the CPU is getting too hot the machine will shut down to protect the CPU.

well......

turned out to be my watercooling loop had a major fail and leaked everywhere!

8 hours in the airing cupboard and fixed!!!
