I turned my PC on and I just get the sound of the fan and the CD-ROM spinning. This has happened a few times lately. So I tried unplugging all the power cables and tried rebooting several times. It worked eventually after about 10 reboots. But I am trying again now without luck.

When I managed to reboot before, it said, "Overclocking failed, F1 for setup or F2 for defaults".

I didn't knowingly overclock!

How can I diagnose what the problem might be?

Thanks,

Jon

It is a P5K-E board actually. Good guess! It has an Intel Quad Core processor, 2 GIG RAM and passively cooled graphics card.

The thing is, the screen remains blank when I start up, so I can't go into defaults. I managed to start it a couple of times again just now. I used the graphics card installation card and rebooted but got a blank screen again!

ive got a P5K pro and have the same problem, i believe its just a general fault. Let me guess it probably only happens when the comp has been off for a while. I just find turn off the PSU until the mobo light goes off and turn it back on. Should bot up fine then

I chose the option F2 to load default values when it does boot. It is either that or go into setup.

It seems that if I remove the power cable from the back of the PC, it is more likely to boot up again. If the power cable is still plugged in, it doesn't seem to reboot. Also, the light stays on on the motherboard if you leave the power cable in.

This has all started to happen just recently. I've only had the motherboard, processor, graphics card etc about 3 weeks.

Kearney, mine happens on a reboot. It is my mission critical server and is normally left on all the time. I agree with the power thing. But I have to remove the power cable and it still doesn't always work. Maybe the bios needs a flash update?

Yer dont worry youre not alone i think its pretty common, i get it every now and again but just removing the power cable and plugging back in after 5 seconds seems to sort it

Edit: yer if you havent got the latest bios its probably not helping
