Hello,
I am abit out of touch with this. I remember using gamespy many years ago and playing online agains people. Basically I want to be able to play online against my friend but no one else. Is there a program to let me do this or do I use game spy or punkbuster etc pref a free option:)

well my friend has call of duty 5 like me also medal of honour etc but i do not know how to set up and host a private server for just me and my friend or which software would be easist to use

More help please?
I am running meadl of honour with xfire. I can set up a game ok but my friend cannot find me. When my friend sets up a game and I try to join a game I either have to click the gamespy option or internet servers. of which there are 1800 of them. Where are the xfire servers? how do i find the right server?

Both log onto MSN messenger.
Both of you put yourselves in the DMZ section on your routers setup page. (your PC's LAN IP goes here, 192.168.101 or whatever it is)
One of you lookup your WAN IP. Click this http://www.mywanip.com/
WAN IP dude runs the server and tells you his IP.
Then the other guy just connects to server by entering the WAN IP.

I would say you don't really need to be in the DMZ to do point to point gaming.
Just need the right ports opened for the games you wanna play.

Get your friend to go to www.portforwarding.com, find his router, find the game and then follow the instructions.

Make sure he gives you the latest external IP address as these will change over time (unless he has a static IP address which would be unlikely)

Most games also have a console option, which you should be able to type a command in to connect to a server directly once your know the servers IP address if your playing on a public server. However i'm not a COD player so can't help there

I would just set up a game with a password and hand out your IP to your friends, get them to search at it and voila. Steam is very good for this, works for CS:S and LFD.
